Bug Reports Help - StarGate Armada - StarGate Rise To Power

Postby jetnova16 » Thu Feb 16, 2012 1:23 am

Ok, there are a few (4) Bug Reports that I keep getting that I can't figure out now that I have been able to fix my StarGate Armada - StarGate Rise To Power Mod to actually generate the Bug Reports, and to finally work using the Replace Weapon Coding from the 1.2.5 Patch.

Also, for the StarGate Seeding ship, only one of the 3 StarGate Special Weapons for seeding 3 different StarGates shows up in the ships Special Weapons selection in the game and I don't get why that is the case.

Here are 4 Bug Reports that I am not understanding:

Does anyone know why this crash is occuring? I have checked the indiviually mentioned ODF files and have found nothing. And I have always thought the given ODF file is the problem file.

But a common part to all of the 5 Exception (Bug Report Files) that I have posted are:

Is there anyone here from the Fleet Ops that can actually read these files and actually knows what they are saying? If it wasn't for one reason, I'd be posting these files there and getting help for them but I can't do that until October of this year. :(

In the future just post the "Main" and "stackdump" sections, as it cuts down on space and the rest isn't that useful for you.

Without seeing the ODFs mentioned by the dump, it's too difficult to see what you messed up, but it's definitely something related to those craft or the weapons/hardpoints/explosion that they carry:

First log looks like RepulsionWave caused it: note that the Weapon (if special = 1) that fires this Ordnance must have needTarget = 1, otherwise Armada will crash when the AI / Special Weapons Autonomy uses the weapon.

2nd bug looks like a problem with the ship mentioned there. Without ODF, can't tell.

3rd bug looks like a problem with techtree.

4th bug looks like a problem with the ship mentioned there. Without ODF, can't tell.

5th bug looks like a problem with the ship mentioned there. Without ODF, can't tell.

Ok, I'll do that when I post other Bug Reports (Exception Files).

I think it is best that I include the ODF files for the errors and also part of the tech1 file for the two races I have been testing.

For Bug Report (Exception 1) - I'll have to check to see what weapon is causing it. That though explains why each one works when I activate them. Certain ones work though with the AI.

Here is the ship for Bug Report (Exception 2)

Once Atlantis left Earth, the United States Military and the President of the United States along with the IOA decided that the best course of action would be to have a defensive station that could actually be armed. Subcentral Command is now home to StarGate Command (the SGC) and Homeworld Security. The StarGate has also been transfered from the planet to this facility. Subcentral Command has all SG Teams and its own Marine and Airforce Military contigency."

I have checked all of these files alot. Actually all of the files in the game, weapons are up to date (as in exist in the game). I'll have to find which one is causing the Repulsion Field crash.

I have found the RepulsionField Special Weapon that is causing that crash, but the others like it work automatically in the game with the AI and don't have the needTarget = 1 coding in their ODF files.

Here are the related files to the weapon:

hWjamengine.odf
Code: Select all

You didn't post all related ODFs, and it's your job to look through for spelling and punctuation and missing commands etc. You have the resources, it's time to take the initiative. Forum goers have told you time and time again to test each unit one at a time to determine a crash, so if you do so, you'll be sure to find the cause very quickly.

In regard to RepulsionField: if you don't believe me, then you should test it yourself. :) . That means an actual test of putting it on a unit and forcing the AI to use the special weapon.

I believe you on what you are saying.
And, I did post the ODF files that are mentioned in the Bug Reports. I have combed through those files hundreds of times as well to find the problems. The other ODF files mentioned in those files are shared with other ships and even stations and they work just fine, it is the file mentioned in the Bug Report/Exception File only. I have ran multiple tests and have figured that out to be the case. :)

*****

The files that are causing crashes are made by someone else, mine work just fine, I have tested them myself with no flaws/problems. Someone that created the files and released them should have had tested themselves before they released them to the community, then these kinds of problems wouldn't happen.

******

I added the needTarget = 1 to the repulsionfield one and now the AI uses it and there is't a crash (none of the other wave files were causing crashes though and don't have the needTarget = 1 code).

*******

And lastly, I have ALWAYS TESTED EACH UNIT AND FILE INDIVIDUALLY when ever I place one into the game. I have always even said that I have, I do that with my own created files and the files created by others. I never edit an ODF file that someone has made until I know that it works.

I even look for the problems myself, even if it takes 100 or more times. If that fails and everything else passes tests with the working files, then I post the Bug Report and the ODF file that it relates to.

So, then the question you should be trying to answer is when does the game crash? i.e.:

If you have a game with only these units, does the game crash, or, if you remove them entirely, does the game not crash ever?

And furthermore, does it crash when you place it via map editor, or when you build it, etc :).

The game crashed with these units both with the Map Editor even before they are placed and right after they are selected to be built. Without them in the game, there really isn't a problem except the Tau'ri won't even load. It is highly possibly related to one Tau'ri station and it's ODF file that I posted. I know that station works in my Star Trek Armada II - Star Trek Spanning The Generations Mod, the only thing different is the race, and tooltips and some minor weapons that are shared with other ships and stations that are working just fine.

For the ship that is labeled fincursion.odf, it shared the same SOD file as the Aurora Class Refit, a ship that actually works. It's weapons are shared with other Ancients ships except a few others that I tested on my test ship, antestship.odf. That is how I know it's not the weapons or the SOD file which leaves just that .ODF file.

So now you should check if the unit causes a crash when

A) you change its faction name (race) to a working ship's faction name
And/OR
B) you remove all its weapons
And/OR
C) you change its sound set to a working ship's sound set

A) I have already attempted to change the races name that uses the ships, it still crashes.
B) The weapons don't need to be removed they work just fine and I even commented them out to test if that was the problem, the crash still happens. I commented out the Tooltips and the crash still occues, I commented out all the HPs for the "// Hardpoints to hit for various systems and other locations. " and the game still crashes.
C) I have already ruled out the sounds because they are the same sound sets for other working ships.

I have tried all of that and before you suggested it.
Do you want me to say what I have done to attempt to fix these problems?
I have tried everything I can think of. As I said, I wouldn't be posting this problem or the Bug Report/Exception Files if I hadn't exausted all possible things that can be done with all the mentioned ODF files to fix this problem.

NOTE:
I have re-tried your suggestions again though just in case I missed something and the previous tests on the same tests have gotten the same results... THE GAME CRASHED!

Here is another Bug Report (At least the parts you suggested to post).

Ok here is the catch, this is the same station that the Ancients have but a hero version for the Tau'ri. Since the Tau'ri brought Railguns to defend Atlantis during the 2nd part of the 3 Part Episode "The Seige" this station is added with Railguns for weapons as well. The Railguns work on other Tau'ri ships that are using them so I know its not them...

Also, at times this is what happens with the game when it crashes, my desktop background goes all black but still shows my icons. This happens sometimes in my regular Star Trek Armada II - Star Trek Spanning The Generations Mod.

Here is what the Background ends up looking like after some crashes:

Here is what a NORMAL Desktop Background should be looking like, taken earlier.
