This probably is a semi implemented feature to let the command cruisers coordinate attacks, as said in the ship descriptions.

Outposts work for command & control.

Second: Klingon cursor becomes federation one after right clicking two or three times.
A normal left click "special" targets single ship then.
Just tested this and can confirm that BotF seems to check for ship functions 4, 6 or 7 (command, outpost or starbase) in order to enable this feature.

And also the changing to the federation target-cursor for the other empires (no holding of button needed / easier handling).

Good work, Callahan :)

I set some Vor'Chas on one of 3 escorts. They fragged it and then switched their disruptors on the other 2, killing them both.

On another attack on one escort and 2 cruisers, some of my ships went after the cruisers with their remaining torps and disruptors after the escorts destruction.
All my ships were "special" targeting the escort group.

Normally, my ships do not switch targets or even target groups if I set them to target one enemy manually - ship by ship.
That's a standard ability depending on ship stats + EPs boni and has nothing to do with the subject.
Callahan wrote:It seems that "special" targeting increases effectiveness of the enitre group using it.
This "semi implemented feature" does not really improve ship abilities i.e. not the subtlest difference from "manual" single target selection. So it's only a workflow simplification for players.

Also sometimes, when re-loading savegames, it seems to destabilize BotF w.r.t. map-range of ships.:? :?:
So it could turn out as a double-edged feature.

I'm guessing the "select ship" (vs. group) option should be limited to fleets with command-ships, and this code never has been finished.:(
I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.

OOH! I just remembered one. If you mouseover one of the "unidentified ship" icons on the main map it'll give you the name of the first ship in the group.

select the 'unknown' ships and mouse-hover on the unknown ship icon in the bottom context bar, and it'll give the ship name (IKS Kle'nup'yo'urroo'm or CDS Gettag irlfriend, etc)

I think that's what you mean.

F2'ing into system screen brings up last system viewed in there, but double or right-click menu'ing brings that system up in that screen.

noticed it when managing my 20+ systems...

Did you take a physical picture of your monitor? You do know you can just hit the "print screen" button, exit to desktop open paint and paste the screen shot into paint. That's a lot faster and easier.

Yes, yes I did. :p I keep forgetting which games work for that, so I just default to digital photography.

Heh, As you can see It gives me the name of the first ship in that Sheliak taskforce, even though I can barely sense that they're there.

can anybody report/confirm any kind of experience with this possible bug of the targeting feature?
