Hi Ovarwa, just wondering if you had time to test RC4?

Other testers, I was Just wondering if any other members have experienced similar problems/issues that Ovarwa experienced with Balance of Power or any other mod?

So far everything is working well for me. I'll report back should I notice any issues.

I just tried it now, and it's a bit fubar.

So, I did an install from rc4: tools, udm, um and bop. I selected only default options. Then I tried to run bopl. The first screen seemed a bit off. Then, when select to start a single player game, I get the udm screen instead of the bop screen. When selecting a starting faction, I get the Ferengi logo, but it reads Dominion. I get the Dominion mpeg instead of the Ferengi, and I get the Dominion UI instead of the Ferengi.

I uninstalled everything and manually removed the botf directory and tried again, with the same (bad) result. I did not bother playing further. I might try uninstalling everything except for bop and then try again. I selected fewer mods with RC4 than with RC3, fwiw.

BTW, something I noticed about RC3 that was different from the previous multi-installer: In both versions, I could hit the Windows key and escape to desktop, with the game still running in the background. The trek music stops playing in the multi-installer versions but not the RC3 versions, even if I close the computer.

Anyway,

Ken

Ok,

First I uninstalled everything except BOP and tools. This did not help.

Then I uninstalled BOP and tools, and reinstalled just BOP and tools. At this point, BOPL starts up correctly, without assets from UDM. (Windows key to desktop of course leaves music playing.) I haven't tried to play a game, but figured it was worth knowing that this is an interaction among mod installs rather than unexpected assets from UDM in BOP.

Repro: Do not select any options (default install location, default mod options, etc). Select tools, bop, udm and um to be installed. Let the installation run to completion. Start BOPL (which will be 800x600) and skip initial movie. Try to start a game, and notice the Dominion's incursion. :) Choose Ferengi as starting race, and get Dominion intro.

Anyway,

Ken

Hi Ovarwa,

from your description it could be a corrupt download, so lets check the file you already have.

download this MD5 checker
winmd5free.zip
(262.09 KiB) Downloaded 132 times
create new folder named "MD5" and extract winmd5free.zip to that folder
execute WinMD5.exe
in new window use browse button to locate the "BOTF_All_in_One_RC4.exe"
md5.jpg
md5.jpg (129.05 KiB) Viewed 6372 times
once it is finished reading file you will see MD5 value.
post the MD5 value from WinMD5.exe

Hi,

That looks the same as yours. I expected that: Had the assets been corrupted, I would expect BOP to have problems even on its own. I suspect some other dependency. Perhaps vanilla botf needs to be installed?

no, each install is independent.

I am not even sure what to ask now, since md5 matches.

so lets start with what is currently installed on your system.

what is installed? (mod and options)
what file was used to install, what is currently installed?
what issues are you having with what is installed?

also please post your system info.

Hi,

Right now nothing is installed. I went back to the multi-installer to verify that I wasn't imagining things. (Verified that music does stop when I escape to desktop. Not yet verified that a Cruiser 1 upgrades properly to a Cruiser2 when starting at Tech2.)

When I had the UDM issue, the following was installed (per previous post):

tools
udm
um
bop

I selected absolutely no options. I went with default everything, including installation directory.

verified that bop from multi-installer upgrades Cardassian Cruiser 1 to 2 properly. RC3 does not do this properly.

Thank you Ovarwa for your detailed report,

I was able to duplicate your issues (did not test upgrade issue)

sound not closing when minimized, due to updated sound dll (mss32.dll)

The install issue is very disturbing and unacceptable. and until a solution is found testing of all in one installer is closed.

It's the least I can do. You (and others) have put so much work into BOTF over the years. An hour or so of my time spent testing and reporting is a small thing.

FWIW, another data point that might be helpful: When I installed from RC3 (and had the Cardassian problem), I installed many mods and the original and did not have the UDM problem.

Clarification....

Multi-installer: Cruiser1 on the map or produced the same turn as the last tech is researched upgrades successfully to Cruiser2. But Cruiser1 in production queue remains Cruiser1.

RC3: All three Cruiser1s remain Cruiser1s.

Update

the GUI error that Ovarwa reported is very puzzling, I can not explain why those files are being installed. (issue goes beyond BOP and was also present in RC3)

When I originally added ability to install multiple mods in single execution I feared errors like this one. I plan to keep exploring this problem to find a solution for a few more days, but it maybe necessary to remove option to install multiple mods in single execution.

EDIT
To those members currently testing RC4, from my tests these errors are rare and only happens when multiple mods are installed on single execution.

Is the code multithreaded? Otherwise running the installs in parallel?
