Crashing Games

Post by Viktor »

I have given a name to my pain...and that is the All Ages Mod. I have the galaxy just the way I want it; all thirty minor races, with Vulcans, Andorians, Tellerites, Orions, Tholians, and Xindi all with in reach (if you can call 10 turns at one square a turn "in reach", and the Xindi were further). Admittedly, I used Ultimate Editor to move the races around, but there were all thirty. Score!

So I thought....

I find myself having to start the game over and over again because anywhere from 60 to 150 turns in the game crashes and reloading just causes the game to crash again. So all the work I put into it gets vented with the warp plasma and I have to start over. I have to start all over trying to get a game with all thirty minor races (multiple restarts until the count [using UE] is right) and now I find myself using UE to do all my infrastructure builds (farms, factory, power, intel, research) and my upgrading just to get back to where I was in the first place. And still....60 to 150 turns in.....it crashes. I've been putting up with this for a solid week now because I'm not a programmer and I have no idea what's wrong. Can someone please tell me how to fix this so I can finish my game in "relative" peace? (Hey, wars happen.)

Thanks for the time and attention.

Maybe you can help me out then. Apart from editing my credits...I have not done a thing except keep track (not edit) the Borg. The last game crashed 70 turns in and I never even changed anything. Just counting.

Still trying to relax here. Crashes...even when I am not doing anything. Not helping.

Or is that problem just by opening the save file? Even just to make sure all the races are there?

no idea on that :(
opening a savefile should not corrupt things, but as soon you edit a single thing, specially on a modded game, UE might break your savegame

beside that the mod itself or your install might have an issue
you can try redownload and reinstall or try whether unmodded botf works well or search the forums if someone reported a similiar issue
this one I don't remember having heard but didn't play the mod a long while myself

also some system info would be nice, just in case ;)

there is a way to edit credits but must be done before game is started. just open the trek.exe with UE and increase starting credits.

Windows Vista
64-bit
4 gig RAM with 1 gig set aside for video drivers

The rest I'll send when I can figure out how to get them off the control panel (I'm not in the habit of sending my system settings  )

Thanks

That part I figured out. I admit it took a few tries, but I got eventually.

Thanks for the info though.

Does that apply for every change made to trek.exe?
