wz with no ports open? no problem..

Post by ruthlessferengi »

well, not quite but u can still play as long as someone is going to host the game for u. I played on lappy and desktop with no assigned ip and no ports open to that dynamic ip, game still runs well ...

on a side note, things have livened up a bit in mp world - been busy playing excellent epic games. Currently have an epic going with xdx, zerochance and gentle... had nice one with Ferengi Captain and even a mystery player on gameranger the other day...

speaking of game ranger, i ran both that and and wz at the same time... both game worked well... in fact, i even had two wz games going on both desktops (both i joined, i.e. no host, no ip assigned and no ports ...) go figure...

depends on router and router settings,
if you join only, chances are that it automaticly opens ports

That can work, cause as a client your pc will send packages first, so your router can guess what pc in your network the data received from the server lateron belongs to, and the server will become more trustful to the router cause as a client you initiate the connection. But it also can be that it doesn't open all ports used by botf but just the ones your pc as client used first. Say you send first on 47624 and 2350 but the server sends first on 2302, it might not be open and cause instability.
Be careful on recommending this option. ;)

P.S. Nice to hear mp has some activity. :)

Launch into the deep dude and throw care to the wind:) if it works great, if not well nothing lost:) most won't ever experiemce the joy of emerging at the wormhole with a ton of ships only to be beaten back by crafty human opponent just because silly ports won't work. Anything to get ppl connected - i'd try it

true, worth a try for people that have no idea on how to set up ports.
Multiplayer is definitely a MUST with botf. :)
