Multi-game play error tips and hints
Hi everyone,
this post is not for tips on how to win
But is for how to try to prevent and get around crashes.
first some things I have learned.
Both player should have game sounds on. this way you know if player has left game right away.
I feel host is important.
The host should always be the last to click turn (normal turns or in battle) I have seen many crashes when person who joins clicks turn after host. and almost never when host is last to click turn.
never click the "turn" button more than once.
do not use in game chat, if window is open during turn process this can cause crash.
When you run into a repeating crash never try to continue.
do this when same crash happens more than once.
auto.sav is what is used when player selects continue
last.sav is one turn before auto.sav and can not be loaded without renaming.
1. all player create folder in safe place (my documents) and copy auto.sav and last.sav into folder.
2. The person who lost connection with game first should rename last.sav in botf folder or mod folder to auto.sav and he needs to load game with continue.
3. all player repeat turn same as before (tournament this is a must)
And hope turn goes though. If not, Both player need to agree on changing turn and how it will be changed. Always remember finishing the game is more important than one battle.
Suggested changes
If crash was due to battle (most are)
have 2 smaller battles
Skip battle and figure you will meet again soon.
turn tactical combat to automatic for one turn. (not sure if this even works)
I am sure all of you have other ideas
But backing up last.sav and auto.sav is the most important thing I almost suggest this on any time you see other player not exit game quickly.

Thanks for the advice Thunder. I will definitely go for the two smaller battles when possible instead of just hoping we meet again. I'm just learning the multiplayer game. It seems MUCH better than the over-rated Star Trek Online as of now. Thanks again.thunderchero wrote: Suggested changes

Welcome to the community Shasthri,
It is nice to see another newcomer interested in multiplayer games and as such I will direct you to this link https://www.armadafleetcommand.com/lib/ ... bottom.jpg it will tell you how to open your ports on your router in eWarzone, the main client used to play BotF games online. A link to download the free software is on the bottom of the site index. Please don't be discouraged if you cannot follow all the info in the link there are many members here that will gladly assist you in getting MP fired up on your PC including myself. If you download and install the software go to the "Other games room" in warzone lobby... it is here (for now) that we play BotF and its mods (the BotF room does not yet support the mods from the site). I am usually lurking around in there recently so I could help you if needed. Good luck

Thank you XDX. If I have any trouble, I will seek your consultation.
The link you posted leads to an image file and not a download. I am currently on the BOTF site downloading the multi-installer. Advice is always welcome and appreciated.
Thanks again.

I knew I shouldn't have drank so much Romulan Ale before typing this morning even that makes a Tholian act like a Pakled. Glad you found the link though

lmao! That reminds me, I have yet to try the Romulan Ale energy drink. I'm curious to know how it tastes and where it can be purchased.

So is there a preferred online service or websight that BotF players use to play online?

Re: Multi-game play error tips and hints
Good day I played this years ago and my friends and I were trying to get back into it and I noticed one thing we've been playing the UD5 mod I believe it's called.
In a multiplayer battle there seems to be a glitch where a cloaked ship gets to act first and the person you're fighting gets to act first so in a three Nation battle one gets shot on without being able to do anything because of the cloaked ships.
Is there a way around that or a mod that fixes that. or is it as simple as never Ally with anybody that has cloak ships? Lol

Thank you for your reply
in your link the part that says code edit looks like it will work perfectly
I am computer illiterate so I will have to learn how to do that, nice thing is this site has awesome links. One question though can only the host make this change or does every player need to make this edit
it is a simple code edit
at 0x071132 12 -> 5C
this bypasses the message window and starts first turn of combat before cloaked fleet can selects commands
If human player is a cloaked fleet, AI will "hold" position for first turn (cloaked free turn as normal)
If human player is not a cloaked fleet, human can select commands of hail, evade or retreat.
cloaked vs cloaked AI will always hold while human can select commands of hail, evade or retreat
this patch will give advantage to human player only, since AI will not change "hold" command.

all players must have changes/edit
