windows 10 version 1607 problems

Post by SolLeks »

I'm having what could either be an issue with Windows 10 or DxWnd. When I try to run Botf through DxWnd (either vanilla or a mod), nothing happens whatsoever. The most action I get is the blue system working circle pop up next to my cursor for several seconds and then disappear (this happens for a second or two longer when I try to run the vanilla install). I don't see any processes opening up in task manager, and when I have the DxWnd status window open while I try to launch the game, it shows nothing. Any ideas on the issue?

let me guess, windows 10 recently updated to version 1706? if so you are screwed.

I have been fighting system problem like this since last Thursday. After format, reinstalling, checking all hardware and software. This is a windows issue, Info from various support chat sessions, windows is not properly indexing of files on your hard drive.

if you ever find a fix please post it.

temporary, I have reinstalled version 1511 and it has fixed all my issues. (windows update will update to 1706 automatically soon)

from crucial support chat, The issue is windows will only use the generic sata driver and my motherboard (asus) does not have a better one available yet.

I did notice, if you re-install game it will work for a little while. but good chance reboot will lose index.

I wish I had a better answer, but if you are experiencing same issues as me I feel your pain. and problems will not stop with BOTF

I had this fear...it also decided it doesn't want to use my GeForce graphics card anymore...the anniversary update is not my friend...

well it looks like I was incorrect, after 2-3 reboots I am still having same issues on version 1511. My first thought was my crucial ssd was having problems. so later today I will disassemble system and replace hard drive with a standard one to see how it goes.

NOTE; when first windows upgrade failed it got stuck at 24% overnight. I am thinking it was damaging my hard drive while it was stuck so long. (this is when all my problems started)

any suggestions would be appreciated. right now I am only guessing.

I threw in an old 5400 rpm standard hard drive and I have been up and running on version 1607 for a full day without any indexing problems.

So my conclusion I had a very strange ssd hard drive failure. I am hoping from my prior phone tech discussions crucial will warranty the drive. (only 2 months left on 3 year warranty)

I really miss my ssd....
