I like Dawn's Warbird. It comes with everything except a wireframe; if you don't like the stock one you'll have to find something else. I think the ODF it comes with is for A2, but if memory serves it has a decent amount of hardpoints.

I started off with Milkshape 3D and personally think it's probably one of the simplest modeling programs, yet still capable of complex work. Blender, I've tried but wouldn't recommend. I know some people like it but the interface seems kind of weird. I use the GIMP for pretty much everything from ma...

If I remember correctly from by attempts at custom mission-making, the hex file must retain the exact same bytesize. So anything you change (for example from 'Dark Omens' to 'Endings') must be padded with whitespace.

I think

FYI, my absolute favorite modeling program is Newtek Lightwave 3D :D
I tried the trial version and fell in love with it. But it's rather expensive and doesn't directly export to SOD.

I believe that the aforementioned 'shields-down' effect can be replaced though (in A1). You would need to find its' texture and replace it with one fully black, and the end result would be an invisible shields-down effect, so in effect it's then disabled. However, then none of the ships of any race ...

Check out the very bottom of the gpdlaser.odf file - there's some lines relating to toggle-based weapons. If that doesn't work, perhaps a phaser with an extremely long lifespan? :)

To add a station, just open up the construction ship ODF that you want to build it with eg. "fconst.odf" for the Feds and add it as if it were a ship. Mr Vulcan: The 8-character filename limit applies to ODFs, I'm sure, but I don't think it applied to SPR or TGA files in the game. Correct me if I'm ...

I don't think that rank affects your 'privileges' at all, except for the obvious admin privileges for Fleet Admirals.

NURBS support

I was trying out the demo version of Autodesk 3DS Max '08 a few weeks ago, and I've learned that you can create much smoother curves by using NURBS representations rather than polygon modeling. Does anyone know if Armada even supports NURBS curves...it would look a heck of a lot nicer

As far as I can tell, all the admins are granted Fleet Admiral status no matter how many posts they have. :)

Speed effects, taken from mutara nebula (mnebula3.odf): craft_speed_coefficient = 0.6 craft_speed_limit = -1 Written as a comment above those lines is "How do we slow down ships? (coefficient is a multiple, speed limit is a cap; set speed limit to -1 to have an unlimited speed limit)" You could even...

turn off GIMP TGA compression defaults

Perhaps I should post in a GIMP forum, but anyway... I am aware that TGA graphics must not be encoded in RLE compression to work ingame (Armada 1). When I save a targa from the GIMP, I tell it not to use RLE, and it doesn't. However, the default save option has RLE on, so I have to turn it off for e...
