Re: Storm3D Fail!

@Voy8472: sorry just to clarify... are these models ones that you downloaded or are these models that you made yourself?

Re: Why should AFC remain online?

Well after years of not playing Armada, I just only recently realized that Armada2 actually works on modern computers (while beloved Armada1 is just too much of a pain to get workarounds for running it) and that has rekindled my interest in modding for it. I've actually been spending a lot of time r...

Re: Controlling ship AI behavior?

Thanks I'll give that a try. I found the wiki for armada modding, I see it defines the defaultgreenalert as "This stops the ship from chasing other ships when a friendly unit in it’s area is attacked, so that this ship does not go wandering off chasing enemies "

Controlling ship AI behavior?

I'm making a small Armada2 mod and have given my starbase the ability to build a small ship that I would like it to hang around near the base so it can defend the base when the enemy attacks. Is there any way I can define the ship's behavior in the ODF so that I tell it not to move too far from its ...

An Armada 2 mod that reverts it to A1?

Many many years ago, I recall that there was a modder who was partially successful in remaking the Federation GUI in A2 so that it looked as close as possible to the Fed GUI from Armada1. I think he planned on doing the other races' GUIs too but then never followed up. That got me wondering if anyon...

Re: Star Trek: Defense Line (Developing a new ST RTS game)

I've not been on AFC for a long time, but I saw this thread last night and was excited to see someone is trying to recreate Armada using the Unity3d engine. I downloaded the demo and have some feedback to offer: - when I played in 800x600 resolution I noticed that some of the GUI buttons/icons are t...

Re: SOD Importer for 3DS Max =ALL VERSIONS=

While I haven't been on this site in many years (or done any A1 modding), I did try to download this to see if I could test it out - but the link seems to be dead. Rather than rapidshare, may I suggest depositfiles? They seem to have a much longer retention of files than RS does.

Using the ST Legacy mission editor to edit A2 missions

So if there's anyone who does not know, Bethesda has now released the mission editor for ST:L and given that STL is a successor to the Armada2 game engine, there may be enough compatibility between these tools and the Armada2 engine that A2 modders might be able to create their own custom Armada mis...

Unfortunately, things look stalled now for the release of those tools. Last heard, a news item on Armada2Files said that in order to get these tools into a state that MadDoc could release them, they'd have to get money from the new publisher to fund the work. There was a brief attempt to rally peopl...

Go here to read the latest development about the mission editor tools AND then bombard Bethesda for requests to release the scripting tools! http://armada2.filefront.com/news/Scripting_tools;30936 Pretty cool that both A2 and Legacy are borne of the same heritage. Should be a boon to fans of both ga...

You can go to the Mad Doc website where there's contact info. But I'd hold off on saying thanks until the mission editor and whatever else may come with it, is released. That's when I think Mad Doc will be gauging the kind of interest there still is in Armada and possibly if it bears a sequel....

Yes, the rotation in A2's 3d tactical view I'm aware of -- it is okay, but I find it much more awkward to use than the cinema view in A1. I've always preferred being able to zoom down to grid-level in the strategic view and then "look around" at the action, rather than having the game engine decide ...

Rotating the camera in Armada2's strategic view

This is just a sanity check first of all -- in Armada1, there was only one view mode (the top-down strategic view). You were able to hold down both mouse buttons and push the camera down to the grid level and ALSO, at any time, drag the mouse left or right to rotate the camera. In Armada2, one of th...

I managed to fix the problem in a roundabout way tonight. I noted that the input.map file maps the "erase" operation in the map editor to the "GreyDelete" key. So I decided to simply remap it to something else like the "x" key instead and voila, now it works the way I remember it. Very strange... I ...

Deleting ships and stations in the A2 map editor

This is just a strange thing I've noticed about the A2 map editor... the guide mentions that if you want to remove a unit from the map, you can just select it and press the delete key. So I hover the mouse over it (sometimes click on the unit) and press Delete. Nothing. I press the Del key on the nu...
