Playing Armada 1. I'm a bit late to modding. I had to download the ODF files (per the book on modding) and I put them in the addon directory.
I just attempted to add my first ship, a Romulan Thandor Attack Cruiser. I followed the instructions, except when I got to the techfile files. I had no .tt files. I downloaded them from another site. The game wouldn't load after I hit launch in the instant action screen. I then did some reading and downloaded STAUM debugger.
I ran the debugger and the odf file ryard.odf had the error that the file rthandor.odf cannot be found, but it is there in the addon directory. Not sure what to do there.
The report on the tech1.tt has me swimming in confusion. 2,137 errors. There are tons of items listed and most are missing? Also, it says the names are limited to 8.3 in length. Can someone give me guidance on this? I googled for hours about the .tt files and found nothing, other than a few places telling me the tech files should have been included with the files of the ship I wanted to add?
I'm playing on Windows 7 Prof 64-bit. Armada has otherwise worked fine up to this point. I patched it to get it work. I have an integrated graphics card but Armada I has always worked.
Thank you, in advance, for any help!

Ok, I built my own TT file. I guessed that I just had to go through all of the ODF files in addon and add their names, and then a number, which I chose as zero, afterwards. It works, but somehow it is giving free tech. So now I'm trying to figure out how to fix that. But I think I got the rest taken care of.

Finally, after digging through DOZENS of downloads of ships I found a TT file. Great resources here!

Hi, welcome
The tech files should have been included with the ODF files download; "techtree" folder. After editing the appropriate .tt file, place it in the addon folder of your armada install. tech1.tt is the "standard" tech for instant action.
The STAUM debugger is an excellent tool. Some of the errors it finds are not really errors, but warnings and such. However, make sure that you set up the tool properly by telling it where your armada is installed.
Regarding the 8.3 naming convention; ODF file names should not exceed 8 charachters in length. that is, "8-chars (someunit), dot, 3-chars (ODF)"
There isn't a great deal of action on here, but do feel free to post your questions. I come around every few days and can probably have an answer for ya.
Cheers,
Mr. V

Thanks, Mr. Vulcan!! I should have done more research when posting my question. I've learned quite a bit from the wonderful site resources. I realize I'm about 10+ years late to modding Armada. Thanks for your help!

Just remember one important thing. Modding Armada can lead to other game modding and help you to develope the talents needed for "bigger" things. Besides. When people start remodding a game they've basically stopped years before it can bring back the "bug"

It's never too late to begin modding Armada. I still do it on occasion. Working on one now, as a matter of fact.
