POLL: UES Ticonderoga CVM-44: A pre-TOS storyline

Do you have creative writing skills?? Think you can charm the masses with a story or two?? Perhaps you can create a mini-toon based on Armada. Then give it a go right here.

POLL: UES Ticonderoga CVM-44: A pre-TOS storyline

Post by EAS_Intrepid » Sun Dec 18, 2005 11:49 am

Please use this link to get further information:
http://www.starfleet-museum.org
This is the first non-B5 related fanfiction I wrote. It was fun to write these, knowing, that the events this timeline covers, are also covered by the Enterprise NX-01 show.
I know a lot of people, who thin, that Enterprise screwed everything up, beginning from the timeline - ending with ship designs.
I admit, that Enterprise should look more like my fanfiction (from my point of view.)

It is based on the Starfleet Museum and may cover events like the Romulan War. This is totally independent from the ENT show.
The ships are great. They follow the development of human ship design until the comission of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701, Constitution class heavy cruiser, much better than the Enterprise NX-01 and its followers.

The UES Ticonderoga CVM-44 is a classic carrier role ship, but also meant for direct battle engagements. You can found everything under the link (Yorktown class).

Commanding Officer: Captain Frederick Winnfield

Executive Officer: Commander Albert Harrison

Chief of Operations: Commander Richard Alistair

Weapons/Security: Lieutenant Commander Wendy Fierstein

Science/Sensors: Lieutenant Jolene Kennedy

Chief Engineer: Mark Burlington

Communications: Ensign Cobain Thomas

Chief Med Officer: Dr. Harold Gerome

Fighter Squad Commander: Major Mary Rosenberg

EPISODES (Season one)
"Pride and Honour"
The Ticonderoga is, together with the UES Yorktwon CVM-5, underway to Ventir 7, a planet with a medium distance to Earth, to pick up the 101. Air/Spaceborne Division.
101st was deployed to counter riots on the Earth colony, that tries to become independent from Earth politics.
Before the UES Ticonderoga CVM-44 and its sister ship UES Yorkwtown CVM-44 arrive, an Earth cargo vessel has been shot down in the Ventir system.

"Fallen Gods"
A Starfleet exploration vessel with the latest technology on board is presumed lost in the Tomak system. After UES Yorktown was called back to Earth, UES Ticonderoga CVM-44 is accompanied by the UES Archer and UES Corona and sent to investigate the disappearance of the explorer.

"Warhawks"
A short skirmish between an Earth Pioneer preotective cruiser and a Klingon scout vessel triggers a potentially hostile situation in Sector 24. Both Earth and Klingon sides deploy ships in the area. UES Ticonderoga is as a part of task force 9-19 one of the many Earth ships stationed there.
Both powers are ready for war...

"From The Stars We Came, To The Stars We Return"
The UES Ticonderoga makes a sensational discovery: An alien sleepership, housing members of the Indian Sioux tribe! The scientifical staff of the Ticonderoga dates the age of the ship as approximately four hundred years old. The new of the discovery spreads throughout the whole Human community and provocates dreamers, scientists and terrorists.

"Apocalypse now"
After the events in Sector 24 an other power seems to want to change the balance of power. The Vulcan High Command is highly nervous about that and tries to eradicate any signs of this new player.
Then, a Vulcan vessel has been attacked and UES Ticonderoga CVM-44 and its escort ship find themselves in the middle of a hot spot.

"Rage"
Starfleet still has no idea from where the new interstellar player comes from or is named. The Vulcan High Command remains quite and does not deliver any useful information to the Humans.
Even after an Earth colony has fallen to the unknown invaders, Earth seems to fight a struggle of their own, while the Vulcan forces retreat on every battlefield.

Anyone else?
If there are people who also want to write one or two stories for it, fine, contact me!

Ps: Crew characters can be changed, since this is in development right now. So any other comments are welcome.

Whilst I'm sure the story will be of good quality, I don't think the background material used will be. If you ask me, the Starfleet Museum is a load of codswallop and has absolutely no grounding anywhere in the canon!

Actually I think, that the Starfleet Museum is a lot more canon to the Star Trek shows from TOS through TNG to Voyager than the new Enterprise series. Everything is more logical, following the construction guidlines of Trek.

BTW: Merry Christmas to everyone.

Whilst it may appear more logical, Enterprise is technically canon (as much as I hated that show) and the Starfleet Museum is not. It doesn't really make all that much sense to me really. As far as I was aware it was the Daedalus class that fought in the Romulan War, not some made up poop from a website that takes part in flights of fancy.

Neil: Open up a topic in the General Chat or Ball busting area or write a letter to starfleet-museum.org to complain, but this is about my planned Fanfiction (that is based on it, but will have some changes...) I don't want to attack you in any way.
Please post you thoughts about my plans considering episodes and events and so on...

Sorry guys, it would seem I digressed from the topic somewhat. I do look forward to reading what you come up with EAS, but I don't quite know what to make of the source material. I meant no offence to you in any way.

Okay, then it's clear, Neil. I don't take it as an offence.

Hey, CaptSyf: I am on the first story already. Should I post a "trial" of it? (It is not even ready...)

Okay people. First taste of the UES Ticonderoga CVM-44.
Respond and tell me what you think.
Please consider, that this is only the first rough script of a part of the first epsiode.

=/\=

Space is a cold place.
Every time Captain Winnfield went out to serve for his home world, far away between the stars and in far star systems and colonies, he felt it. Felt, that the cold does not only puts strain on the ships heating systems. After a certain time it reaches heart and brain, making some Starfleet officers emotionless beings without fear of the dark, of the unknown.
He sighed and sipped from his coffee. Winnfield was probably one of the many bored Captains of Starfleet. Sure, he was lucky not to have seen too many combat situations, but isn't it boring to maintain patrol duty all the time?
Two years ago, when the UES Ticonderoga was launched, he became Commanding Officer of this monster of ship. Before, he was XO on a small system patrol vessel in the Sol System, patroling the Mars-Europa route and saving accidentially damaged ships and their crews and keeping pirates off the commercial routes.
Sometimes he feels, like he was only chosen to command a carrier, because no one else was available or turned it down. The battleship XOs and COs knew, what was waiting for them, when they were transferred to a carrier: weeks, months of waiting and stubborn watch shifts, warp flights and waiting again.
The doorbell rang and ended Winnfields thoughts.
"Come in."
Commander Harrison entered the ready room. He held a pad, what probably was just a gesture that meant nothing.
Winnfield looked up from his paperwork.
"You got anything for me, Commander?"
"Sir, we received a transmission. We are to head to 43 by 189 by 17 to rendezvous with a flight of Minotaurs and the Yorktown."
"That should be the new squad for our docking bays."
"Yes, Sir. 113th Carrier Fighter Group."
"Good. Anything else?"
"No, Sir."
"I'll be on the bridge in a moment. Dismissed."
"Aye, aye!"
Harrison turned to the door and went out. Winnfield sighed again and took another sip from his coffee. The fighters should be a short break of the boredom.
Captain Winnfield stood up and put on his jacket.

The door of the ready room opened again and Captain Winnfield entered the bridge.
"Report."
Harrison replied immediately.
"Nothing new, Sir."
"Okay, Navigation. Enter target coordinates, ah, Commander. Could you please give the data."
"Of course. Target coordinates are at 43 by 189 by 17."
The young woman at the naviagtion entered the coordinates into her console.
"Coordinates entered. Should I plot a course?"
"Yes. As soon as you are ready, report it to me and lay in course."
"Aye, Sir. Course plotted. We will move to the nearest star system at first, that would be the Gomelon system. Then we move on to the coordinates."
"Accepted. Lay in course and accelerate to warp 2."
"Course laid in."
"Engage!"

The Ticonderoga turned and accelerated to warp speed. With a flash of the warp nacelles she entered warp speed.

Five hours later
Jolene Kennedy sat in the officer’s mess and ate her meal. She was wondering, if she would have any tasks to. The Ticonderoga was now for one week underway again and all she did was scanning an asteroid for a small smuggler base, that was not there.
Dr. Gerome approached her.
“May I sit down, Lieutenant?”
She looked up and smiled.
“Oh, yes. Have a seat!”
Dr. Gerome sat down and began to eat.
The Chef Med Officer was probably one of the only persons on board, that had a closer relationship to Lt. Kennedy, as she was a very quite person and lived for the scientific task. She was worried about her assignment, as she wanted to serve on a deep space explorer. A simple scanning job on a carrier was not her goal.
“You’re bored again, right?”
Gerome looked at her. His friendly eyes reflected his warm behaviour to other people.
“Yes. It’s always the same. I just need to scan for larger particles in our way and warn the navigation officer, if there is a larger particle. If not, I have nothing to say and continue my endless scans.”
“Haven’t you asked the Captain for a scientific assignment?”
”I did. Five or more times. He always said, I should wait. He’ll notify me when my knowledge is needed.”
“Come to the sickbay after your shift. I have something, that might interest you.”
Through the intercom the voice of Commander Harrison was heard.
"Lead officers to the briefing room. You are awaited in five minutes."
Lt. Kennedy sighed.
"Okay, Doc. I'll go then. See you after my shift."
"Of course."
Kennedy stood up and smiles shortly, before she left the mess hall and headed to the briefing room.

Captain Winnfield stood in front of a star map. With a finger of his right hand he pointed out the Ventir system. Lieutenant Kennedy tipped on the keyboard of a console and the map zoomed in onto the system.
"This, is the Ventir system. A colony that tried to become independent by storming Earth military facilities and a Starfleet base. I suppose you heard that on the news. Earth Joint Military Command decided to send the 101st Spaceborne and to counter that riots. However, it seems that the riots became much more violent and JMC don't want special forces to act there, as they might be outnumbered.
So we are to meet the UES Yorktown. Instead of a fighter squad, the Yorktwon currently carries dropships and a mobile Marine Corps ground base. Additionally a hospital ship will arrive in the Ventir system as soon as we are there. However, we are ordered to cover the Marines whilst their landing operation and the UES Yorktown in the systems. Also, it is possible that the Ventir rebells may try to do suicide tactics against our ships in space."
“Sir, does that mean, that you really expect these people going up against us?”
Lieutenant Alistair looked shocked. Though he was an expert on terrorism, he didn’t believe that a colony trying to become independent would use such tactics to reach their goal.
“Yes, Commander.”
The officers remained quiet for a short while.
“Is there anything else?”
Captain Winnfield looked into the round.
“Nothing. Good, then you’re dismissed.”
The officers, except Commander Harrison, left the Briefing Room.
Winnfield looked at the star map, that showed the Ventir system.
“Do you think it is wise to use force?”
It was typical that Commander Harrison came up with the moral question. Since the launch of the Ticonderoga and his assignment on the ship two years ago he was the moral instance of the ship. Winnfield was sure, that Harrison would provide the moral back-up, if the ship’s CO had to do a tricky decision.
“I don’t know. Until know I was not involved in any larger politic situation. Now, we’re here, ordered to protect Marines that will probably shoot on civilians that want nothing more then a little independence from a larger system.”
“The real question is, how we can make up the best of the whole situation. I mean, can we do something to help the people but don’t break our orders or even the law?”
”Can we?”
”That, Captain, is a decision that everyone here needs to make themselves.”
Winnfield smiled a little. Again he looked at the star map and read the names of the planets.
The intercom beeped.
Ensign Cobain Thomas, the ship’s comm officer reported from the bridge.
“Sir, we have an incoming transmission. General Drake from Joint Military Command. Should I put it through to your quarter?”
”No, patch it through to the Briefing Room.”
”Aye, Sir.”
The intercom deactivated.
“Should I go?”, asked Commander Harrison.
“No, you can stay. You’ll know the content of the transmission anyway.
The starmap is replaced by the face of General Drake. The old Marine Corps general was the chief of the JMC and so far one of the highest ranked military officers in the whole armed forces branch.
“Captain Winnfield, this is the additional briefing concerning terrorist threats in the Ventir system. I may remark, that this is only for your knowledge.”
“Stop.”
The transmission stopped.
Winnfield turned around to Harrison.
“Damn it. This is more worse then I thought.”, said Harrison with grim in his voice.
“I hope this does not come true.”
The transmission continued.
“A few month ago the Ventir colony declared its request for independence. Then, a violent group of people stormed a security station and later a Starfleet Base. JMC decided to deploy the 101. Air and Spaceborne to the system. But I am sure that you know that already.
New is, that there is probably a threat to the security of Earth. It is known that other colonies have contacts to terrorists groups and that they trade weapons.
The vicinity of the Ventir system however is ideal for the illegal production of weapons, since the system is rather larger. You are ordered to search for these weapon production facilities and report their locations to the Military Area Command.”
The General paused shortly.
Harrison hold his breath. He could not believe, that Starfleet really believes the tales of a terrorist network of the independent colonies and those ones, who struggle for their independence.
General Drake continued.
“I know that these orders may be in contrast to public information. Your new flight squad commander is informed about the new gathered intelligence and will support your mission.
Once your objectives are fulfilled you are, as said before, to report the Area Command. Major Rosenberg has level five clearance, so that you can to talk to her about anything related to this assignment.
General Drake, Joint Military Command, out.”
The screen fades out.
Winnfield moves to one of the chairs and sits down.
“Hell, what is going on back home? There is no terrorists network! Is the independence of a few colonies so bad that JMC and the politicians are up to provocate a civil war by repressing them?”
”Captain, that is a bit too high for any of us. And they damn know it.”
“What do you suggest to do?”
”We wait for Major Rosenberg. When we know what she thinks about that we can think about doing something.”
”Can we put on trial for that?”
”Sedition?”
”Exactly.”
”No. Not yet. We’re no revolution guys.”
