DVD Burning Problem

Post by krasim » Mon Jan 31, 2005 6:39 pm

i had a problem over xmas, where a DVD took 40min to burn no matter what i set the burner sepeed to.

1x - 8x was all 40min, the diskes i use will burn in those randges so they should be fine. i solved this problem though by formating the pc and it worked.

the problem has come back again and is happening the same way, Nero's wright buffer i think it is, (the one at the bottom of the burn window) is switching imbertween 12%-99% and ranges between continuously. the dvd work after they burn with no problems, but it is starting to anoy me with it taking 40min to make 1.

the dvd drive is a artech 12x dvd +/- drive, windows shows it as VOM-12E48X.

the data i was trying to burn ranged from 2gb-4.5gb and still took 40min, my pc specks are.

inter p4 3ghz
1gb ram
200gb hdd
VOM-12E48X on seperate IDE.

any help apriciated.

btw. i thought it was spyware or somthing similar, so iv run removal tools, and gotten rid of all i could fined, and also gon to safe mode to remove stuff i knew shouldent be on my hhd, programs with names like xyyydfr.exe .

Geeze - that's one nice system - my primary system is a AMD Athlon 64 3.4GHz system with two 120 GB SATA hard drives, 512MB DDR2 PC-4000 RAM, 256MB video memory. Your system is quite good - the only thing that I would be able to think of that would cause a DVD burner to register as a 48X CDRW drive only is the driver that is installed, which may also be the source of the problem with slow burning. My DVD+RW drive is pretty old - about 2.4x, but it burns in 22 minutes for a full DVD. So I think it must be your drivers. If you search for the company site of your drive, you may be able to find downloadable driver(s) for your drive. Hopefully you find one - as having a 1-8x dvd drive that burns at 40 minutes sucks!

should have posted a few hours ago, its now fixed, the probel was with the bus speed, it was in PIO mode whitch limited the transfer rate. had to uninstall and re-install the ide bus for it to work fine. this might be why armada failed to install for me around xmas when i also had this problem.

VOM-12E48X means, VOM not sure about, 12 is the dvd wright speed and 48x is the cd wright speed. whitch would make scence as it does burn dvd+r at 12x iff the disks are compatible and will burn cd's at 48x.
