Post by Majestic »

I thought posting links were against the rules?

I was asking a question. As early this year I did it and people came down hard on me.

Also I ask the same question in the other thread as well, I am not singling this thread out.

To me it looks like people are playing favourites, I am one that believes in fairness and following the rules to the letter, I am not questioning you but asking a question.

Have the rules been changed?

I'm going to split these posts to a new thread so we can analyze this further. I'm not completely sure of those rules myself, so we shall discuss it further.
Flew in here 17 years ago, flew out 13. Back then early 20s, dreamin'. Now, late 30s, reminiscin'. Too bad there wasn't an Armada 3, except the Sins of a Solar Empire mod. But hell, at least there's that. *Shrugs*

Quite honestly I am confused too.

However, I think the content of the link is what matters. If it's some idiot advertizing an Online Casino or some kind of advertizing scheme - that's bad. Heck, if it's about modding, then it seems like it's alright, as long as it's not a competing site.

MSFC is not a site in competition, neither is Stargate Armada site or pGA-GC (Gaming Community). At least if I'm seeing this right. I've checked on this with Major I think one other time, I forget which thread (I wish I had a link to that thread where we discussed this - in fact I lowered my rank because of it). I at first thought it was not allowed, then I found it was. So that probably answers both our questions.

Anyway, posting links to illegal sites, questionable content, etc. That's bad.

JKust a clirification. Posting of links to other forums is a no-no unless discussed with a member of staff (who should then leave a comment indicating that this was agreed to). Hotlinking to other sites image files directly is also frowned upon unless that site specifically allows it (such as Photobucket). Linking to anything which is likely to be illegal in some fashion will get a permanant ban in place, but other than that links are generally checked and if found to be suspicious then the members post will be edited and the link removed with a stern warning.

Hope that clears it up 8)

*Quick edit* - There is one exception to the forum rule. As there are sub forums for mod, if they post any link to their own forum within this subforum then it will be allowed.

There we go. Thanks for clearing that up Major. :)

I may consider moving this to the rules section. For the moment though, I'll sticky this topic. :)

I suggest a motion from all staff to place the official version of these rules (what Major said) in the Rules category.

One 'aye' vote from me.
