Warren, what is this fascination you have with posting in the "Testing" forum?? That is for testing signatures, image links and such like!!

For the postings you are making you are better off using the "General Modding" section which is where I have moved this thread!!

ok, number one if your going to copy the textures for your mod youd beter get permission from the original makers first and give them credit for their work.

im assuming that your trying to copy textures from a fan made ship to either another ship or one of the stock ships. You can rename the texture files but the placement of them will be off; it would be like trying to get a 6 foot tall man to fit into a 4 year olds clothes, it can be done but you'll need to edit the placement of the textures.
Star Trekkin' across the universe, because I STILL can't find reverse!

Usage Permission; All are free to use and edit my work in any way they see fit, so long as credit is given where it is due.

when a ship is made in a modelling program such as milkshape and 3ds max, it is textured in that program also. the model file is directly linked to the texture file via "coding".

simply copying the textures from one mod to another will not work, for example :

"i like that galaxy class textures, i think it will look good on my model, ill just dumnp it in the textures folder." - this wont work, as the new texture file may 1) not be the same filename as the original, and 2) it may not be mapped the same.

so to answer your question, to alter a ships texture, you need to either retexture the model, or be very very good with photoshop :)

hope this helps

I think now retexture should be just give the original makers their credit, but you don't have to get their permission because the game is so old that most of the original makers don't care about playing the game anymore (offline for good). I make Terran Empire texture all the time some of my ship are godlike including the sheild/weapons and only a ship like it can kill it  I just good with Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit) and programming code {HTML. C, Java} but don't I know much, because it is basic (good enough for the game).
