Multiplayer issues

I've been trying to use Birth of the Federation's multiplayer mods and Thunder Chero's and Fluids both don't seem to be working right. We've also tried doing normal as well. I've been trying to connect using tcp/ip. I make the game and then when my other half tries to connect the game doesn't show up. We've tried entering the Ip and we also haven't. We've stopped windows firewall from blocking it. Does anyone have any on tips on making this game work?
