Re: How to play the game?
To me the game is simpler with no minor races, and no random events. Not everyone would agree, but I do the same thing in Master of Orion II: I turn off random events. Usually they pick on whoever is ahead, anyways. I'd also encourage you to pick a race to play, then bias the tech settings for that ...

That wasn't the poster's problem, that's your problem. You can't answer the poster's question, so you call the poster dumb?ruthlessferengi wrote:the actual problem you have is that you are playing vs AI... which is dumb... enough said. play smart, play humans.

Huge map, endless game
I'm playing the huge galaxy mod, or "the endless game". The Federation is long gone, and the Cardassians are down to one world I haven't bothered bombing. I recently met the Klingons (turn 497) who were also attacking the Ferrengi. More recently (turn 518) I triggered something unusual - a...

Re: Advice for new players
i have a bit of an isolationist playing style My style, too. I can suggest settings more inclined to that style of play: * tech level: pre-warp. Other races will grow more slowly than at higher tech. (setting your tech higher is a nice edge as you learn the game, again) * largest galaxy size. Game ...

Re: Cloaked ships can't attack systems when uncloaked
I've been using a workaround for years as the Romulans: regroup. You take the clocked fleet, click "regroup" button in the lower left, and click on a ship. That kicks it out of the group. The ship you kicked out is uncloaked with an "avoid" mission. Select that uncloaked ship, an...

Re: 18k members?
2) Click on the "POSTS" column title twice. Screen will reload between clicks. This will arrange members in descending order by their number of posts. :-) You may now scroll through the pages. Sorting by number of posts will get you the people who post the most, it's true. But you can't s...

Re: Other race's colonies on your border
@stardust: Good point about raid, which I forget having used it rarely. Picking battles is a good source of morale, although timing that near bombing sounds tricky. If an enemy is near your border, range to their other ships might be a problem. @KrazeeXXL: Preventing the colony isn't part of the que...

Re: Empire AI wishlist
I wonder if the Federation AI could change the number of times it demands credits, before attacking. Right now the Federation definitely uses demands first, then war. If the things which anger the Federation could be greatly reduced, it might lead to more demands and fewer wars. That would at least ...

Other race's colonies on your border
Playing Romulans I often have to deal with border colonies of other empires. My steps for doing so tends to only work well as Romulan, owing to the morale incentives involved. I accept a peace treaty from another empire, and then they colonize near my border. My response as a Romulan is a violent ap...

Re: 18k members?
@KrazeeXXL : This is about the members screen, so by filtering I mean I can view the members screen with a filter. On one side of the screen might be a checkbox with a description "filter out members with 0 posts". I would view the member list normally with that box cleared. I could check ...

Re: Forum Pulse: GUI what would you change to improve it?
Let me limit my earlier suggestion to just "it would be nice for the systems view to keep showing the system you just visited."
That and the buy button not quite catching every click annoys me more than the rest of the UI.

Re: 18k members?
@Flocke : I had 2 criteria - "no logins in 3 years" would keep the members who like to lurk. (Hi there, Lurkers!) But I could also understand reluctance to modify site data just to make a members screen look better. @cleverwise : You gave me an idea - what about a way to filter out "0...

Re: 18k members?
@cleverwise - I strongly agree on fighting spam bots, but here the fight seems to be going well. I don't see many random posts advertising garbage. Sorting by number of posts will get you the people who post the most, it's true. But you can't sort any other way - if you sort by account creation time...

Re: Forum Pulse: GUI what would you change to improve it?
In BoTF, there's only one systems list - always in alphabetic order, and always returning to the top. If you use that list to visit systems that need adjustment to their build queue, it's unpleasant. Each system you visit scrolls your system view back to the beginning (pet peeve of mine). But more i...

18k members?
I'm surprised there's 18k members in the list here:
memberlist.php
It's hard to spot the active members in that list - most of the entries are 0 posts.
