Re: Enterprise CV-6

I believe that CV-6 Enterprise is the most decorated ship in the history of the United States Navy. It's the Audie Murphy of ships.
I agree she deserves a place of honor.

Mass Effect similarities to BotF

I haven't played the Mass Effect games because I don't enjoy action-rpgs or third person shooters much anymore compared to CRPGs or strategy games. My reflexes aren't what they used to. However, I've been seeing a lot of crossover stories involving Mass Effect, and have some familiarity with the Cit...

Re: New Game - Opening Strategy

Odd that nobody realizes that last part about the food when it says one number for sustaining the colony, and another for max population growth in the status screen. Nobody figures out what the max was about. Then again, the documentation was rather lacking in that it did not adequately explain the ...

Re: How to improve starships?

In vanilla, ships are automatically upgraded once you gain the appropriate advancement.
They will only improve from like to like, so you'll go from "light cruiser" to "light cruiser II", as opposed to replacing a destroyer II with a heavy destroyer.

Re: What are your favorite Star Trek games?

I have to give mention to the classic text-based with a psudo-gui Star Trek game that was ported to many systems back in the '80s and '90s. It was mostly just called "Star Trek" although one early Apple II variant called it "Apple Trek". The one where you command the Enterprise and have to fly aroun...

Re: Hello to all and a question

I believe some of the system names are actual real-life stars.
It is also possible that the creators of Master of Orion threw in some homages to Star Trek with the names of the stars. I'm not familiar with Master of Orion so I can't say what is or is not there.

Re: Negative valve for ship costs over appr. 32700 credits

Without knowing anything about the game code, the number is most likely 32767 due to it being the limit for a 16-bit signed integer and thus one less than 2^15. 16-bit signed integers range from +/- 32767 as one bit is used for indicating positive or negative.

I just noticed that I wasn't logged in when viewing alerts delivered via e-mail. I hadn't noticed because I hadn't had anything constructive to say. So I was probably being counted as a guest instead of a registered member.

Re: Anyone still knocking about in here?

I'm pretty new, but have been lurking for the last couple years. I only picked the game up 2 and a half years ago at a library "used book sale". Great buy. Although I might not be playing BOTF for a bit, as I just picked up a box labeled "Gamefest: 4 Star Trek Classics" at the last book sale. It say...

Re: klingon question

Don't forget to finish terraforming ALL the planets in the system. Build a second colony ship to do so.
It will speed the growth and increase the maximum population. More population means more credits and either intel, science, or production. More credits [and production] means more ships.

Re: Race bonus factors?

Without explaining what the numbers are fully, as well as what the bonus factor is used for, it will be difficult to comment on them.
Since they aren't part of the vanilla game, we don't know anything about them.

Finding a system

I feel dumb, as I haven't played in quite a while. I'm also sick with the flu and the doctor basically told me to quarantine myself until Monday, so I'm playing some old games. However, I'm not at my best. I can't remember where a specific system is located, and I can't recall how to get the system ...

I thought the limit was nine ships per task force. Does UDM double that?

Re: How do you building large fleets?

So does UDM lower the cost of fleets in both build and maintenance while upping the maximum size of the planetary populations? I still haven't gotten around to trying the mods, but I'm getting interested. On the other hand I should probably install BotF on my modern computer instead of the old 1ghz ...

Re: Bad dev jokes

1. to get into the BIOS of my 80286 with 8Mhz and 1 MB RAM, I had to run it without autoexec.bat and config.sys. After the entire booting cycle was complete, I had to press Control+Alt+Enter. It was nowhere documented (didn't have documents back then) and I found out by accident somehow (I was 12 y...
