Vanilla: Why are Strke Cruisers short range?

I just took a look at the vanilla game, and was struck by something. The Romulan Strike Cruisers are short ranged. The description says they are for bombardment of enemy planets. Shouldn't they be long range so they can reach the enemy? Was this a bug or by design? I thought I asked this years ago, ...

Re: Ideas for outpost/starbase usage?

I think that if your flying outpost/starbase ships don't give the range extension, then they are just another powerful but slow ship, like the dreadnoughts in vanilla. If you use them, then you'll need something that will give the range extension when there isn't a handy planet there to build a ship...

Re: BotF Pbem possible?

There is such a function built in to the game. Force "tactical combat options" to be "automatic" instead of manual for any such "play by e-mail" game.

Re: What are they eating...

Holograms have been around for a while, they were really popular in the late '80s and early to mid '90s. Around the time that TNG was airing.
The holodeck is completely different from those hologram pictures they used to make.

BotF clone for android?

Several years ago a link to a BotF clone for Android was posted here. I tried it, but the text was too small on my phone, so I deleted it. I got a new phone last November, and just remembered it. I can't recall what it was called, and am not having much luck searching the forum. Could somebody give ...

My HD is full, I'm looking to upgrade the HD and RAM soon. Until then I can't install it.

Re: Galactic Civilizations free

Looks like only the basic game is free, if you want the expansions you have to buy it.

Re: Civilization Series Favourite Scifi/Fantasy (incl Star Trek) TC Scenarios & Mods Hunt

You wouldn't happen to know a way to access an HFS+ formatted Mac hard drive (100gb, Mac OS 8.6, circa 1999 or 2000) using a Windows computer if I were to put it in an enclosure? All the solutions I heard back in the day involved Linux. It's also got several partitions.

Re: Civilization Series Favourite Scifi/Fantasy (incl Star Trek) TC Scenarios & Mods Hunt

No, but there might be a way to salvage it. My Mac died in 2009, and I never did anything with the 100gb hard drive. If I were to put it in an enclosure and hook it up to a machine running Linux it might be possible to extract the collection. The only issue is that I don't have an external enclosure...

Re: Why is torpedo accuracy so poor in BOTF?

Interesting, since in vanilla the torpedoes are usually pretty accurate, but the beam weapons (phasers, disrupters, etc) miss all the time. At least in ship-to-ship combat. Outposts almost always get hit with torpedoes, but the computer rarely builds starbases in vanilla.

Re: End game diplomacy

I rarely bother with diplomacy in BOTF, they declare war one minute, then sue for peace the next, then immediately declare war again a turn or two later. But I've had the enraged 2 bar status as well with the major races, there never seems to be a way to appease them when it's stuck there. If I giv...

Re: Civilization Series Favourite Scifi/Fantasy (incl Star Trek) TC Scenarios & Mods Hunt

I'm just finding it interesting that you seem to be going through a similar phase that I went through in the early 2000's. Utterly addicted to Civilization II scenarios and snapping up all the ones you can find. On the one hand you have nearly 20 years more time for content to accumulate. On the oth...

Re: End game diplomacy

I've found that unlike minors, throwing money at majors doesn't seem to have the same effect that it does on minors. Sometimes it just seems to be a wasted effort, other times it will flip them from icy or even despised to cordial in a few turns and to enthusiastic in another. I haven't figured out ...

Re: Civilization Series Favourite Scifi/Fantasy (incl Star Trek) TC Scenarios & Mods Hunt

I have no idea. It has been too long and as I did not know anything about Dune when I had the Mac I did not play it more than once or twice.

Does the scenario intro talk about spice and something along the line of "He who controls the spice controls Dune"? That's all I remember.

Re: Civilization Series Favourite Scifi/Fantasy (incl Star Trek) TC Scenarios & Mods Hunt

I know I had a Dune scenario for the Mac version of Civilization II. Unfortunately my PowerMac 6500/300 is dead (RIP 1997-2009), and I have no idea where it came from. I actually thought it was part of the official scenario packs until this moment. I can confirm that there is one for Civ2, but it mi...
