Anyone tried "New Horizons" for Stellaris?

It's everything I ever wanted in a BOTF sequel. (A bit too much, but no one is perfect!).

Would love to set up some games with folks sometime to have a runthru.

Is the BOTF game style a legacy of a bygone era?

What I mean is, you look at TBS space based games these days, Stellaris, Endless Space, MoO16, etc... They all have abandoned the traditional "tile map" state of play. In fact the only TBS game I can think of these days that still uses it is Civ 5, but even it's successor is abandoning tha...

Re: Complete, utterly hypothetical...

As for Ideas, I have seen many of the remake projects come and go over the years. While some are on going projects they have very low support. Yea, i've been playing BOTF since 1999 and i've seen alot rise and fall, that's why I made it clear that this was a learning project for myself adn no...

Re: Complete, utterly hypothetical...

I have in fact got about 10 years software development experience on the enterprise level for C/C++, C#, Java, Javascript, Cobol, Pascal, Assembly, Q and Visual Basic (Not vb.net though) as well as a swath of scripting languages for web development. I've build games over the years and other softwar...

Re: Complete, utterly hypothetical...

Wasn't friday 13 when i Posted it (GMT+10 :P ). Thanks for the welcome, been lurking here for a long time these last few years. Just to clarify, in regards to "gamer not game dev" bit, by this i mean, I don't professionally do game development. I have in fact got about 10 years software de...

Re: Complete, utterly hypothetical...

Oh, just to show I'm not kidding or just pie-in-the-skying this. I'm currently working in Unity on building a dynamically generated Hex-Grid for gameplay. Once I can get that down, i'll be testing "object" movements and then giving hex tiles specific features like... nebula, or stars, or b...

Complete, utterly hypothetical...

I've been bored these last few months and I've been making little headway with my 3D modeling work and programming. So I've decided to combine them both and throw myself into the unity3D engine for some game development. Couple with that an interest to see a BOTF2 game actually finished, and well......

I think this would work wonders with the Crystaline Entity, instead of depopulating a system it de-terraforms it too.

Crazy Ass question for you modders

Anyone been following Doug Drexler's blog? drexfiles.wordpress.com. He's had it running for nearly a year and has something that may interest you people. Renders of the studio models of EVERY ship that appeared in Enterprise, most that appeared in voyager, along with concept art and a few renders fo...

spock: that explains a lot really... is there any chance you'll ever figure out how to fix it or enable it or is this little issue more of a "lack of code" then a "hex values incorrectly set"?

Well. Strike cruisers usually help in battle, set them to assault and their torpedoe waves generally wipe out most fast attacks in the first turn or so. I've used them to great result in some larger battles, but they've always been useless in their primary role as planetary assault. What about UDM 3...

so it's really a matter of cheap tricks to get ahead and exploiting a badly coded AI to do so? That's kinda disappointing and seems to take the fun out of it. The most fun BOTF games i've ever played on lans and the like have been where you dont steamroll in the first few turns, but turn it into a g...

so.... strike cruisers

What's the point in using them in planetary assaults? They always die when a planet's orbs are on, especially compared to cruisers or battleships, so what is their advantage? More damage inflicted on a planet's surface or what?

thunder: Out of curiosity... why was the Borg cube made into a sphere instead? As well, is it possible to change the "random turn" the borg appears on? I was having a fun little game with the impossible AIs at tech 1, the borg came in about turn 100 and kurb stomped the Dominion Romulans a...

I am aware of only one instance when the Borg willingly sacrificed a ship, and that was in VOY 'Scorpion' when a cube rammed a bioship. SEVEN: Lower your weapons. We are here with your Captain's consent. It was necessary to sacrifice our vessel to protect yours. We have an alliance do we not? VOY Ã...
