Re: Bad dev jokes

This isn't entirely a joke, but a real incident that happened back in 2012. I had just completed upgrading the RAM on a bunch of CPUs and had 16 of them stacked up on a cart bringing it into the back room to be shipped off. I had a lidless open box with the old RAM DIMMs on top. Another tech was co...

Re: Bad dev jokes

Oh god, those are old. I first heard them over 25 years ago. Yes, back when I was in junior high. Incidentally, back then I wanted to be a programmer. I didn't give up that dream until after my first year of college when I found I had little talent for GUIs and went with tech support and networking ...

Re: Opinion question

Some of the limitations on the cloak seemed artificial, especially after the movie Star Trek VI:The Undiscovered Country . Why is it that nobody in Picard's time could fire when cloaked? That said, the use of cloaking technology to make something like Chang's ship that prevents the enemy from being ...

Re: How do you building large fleets?

Is there a FAQ on those "hidden options and hotkeys" or a post in the forum going over them?

Re: How do you building large fleets?

That seems to mostly be my experience as well, except that if the ships are reasonably far from the enemy group I designate and I choose "charge', they generally will fly straight at the enemy and fire. What they actually do seems somewhat random if I issue any other command. Also what they do when ...

Re: Combat. Tactics and helpful advice.

The Federation and Romulans were not allies. It was closer to a joint operation between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. (IIRC there were a couple of such for search and rescue). The presence of the Neutral Zone and all the previous interactions indicated they were not all...

Re: Combat. Tactics and helpful advice.

Haha, I thought I must've somehow missed an episode or that maybe I was the only one who noticed. Didn't even bother to write her out of the story. She was simply never seen and never mentioned again, even the Romulans and Section 31 totally forgot about her. The Romulans also never seemed bothered...

Re: Combat. Tactics and helpful advice.

I know, that always bothered me that the Tal Shiar officer just disappeared.
I don't recall any explanation for that in the show, they just never mentioned her again.

Re: Combat. Tactics and helpful advice.

They did, and it was the Dominion's fault that the ship even went into production. Originally the project was canceled with only the prototype being built for the very reasons you stated. Sisko was able to requisition the prototype he helped design for use helping to defend the then-underarmed stati...

Re: Combat. Tactics and helpful advice.

Thing is, only the lead ship in the Defiant class had a cloak on loan from the Romulans. IIRC when it was destroyed in the battle with the Breen energy dampening field, they lost the cloak as well. The Defiant class in BotF should NOT have a cloak. Maybe the first one you build might have one, but a...

Re: Largest System Population

Could you attach a copy of the game file that holds the system data for your "vanilla"? (I forgot which one it is, but UE should tell you, it's just that BoTF is on my old computer and it is turned off at the moment.) I'd like to try playing with the larger system sizes. Particularly when playing Kl...

Re: How do you building large fleets?

That's typically my weakness in all 4X games. I tend to focus too much on infrastructure and don't build enough military units.

Not anymore, but it used to be available from Home of the Underdogs. I was able to get a replacement CD via that site back in 2009.

Re: Largest System Population

You need to specify if you mean vanilla or with mods, and if with mods, what mods are being used.
The largest I've seen in vanilla was 410, fortunately while I was playing Klingons since they need 200 population for a trade route.

Re: Star Trek Related Fan Games & Mod Projects

The idea is good, the implementation is horrible. I did try to give constructive criticism on what could be done to fix it.
