Re: Civilization Series Favourite Scifi/Fantasy (incl Star Trek) TC Scenarios & Mods Hunt
I could have sworn that at some point the game was available for download on some site legally, but I never paid much attention because I have CDs for both Mac and Windows (got the latter about a decade ago for $2 at a "Book sale", although it only had the CD, no manuals).

Re: Windows Update strikes again
Installing WIndows 7 can only be a joke, given it is out of support. For myself I am still much happier with Windows 8.1 than with WIndows 10, cause it gave me far less hassle and is not so overloaded with tons of crap. Ofc I used classic shell with it from the beginning. Nonetheless, given the nea...

Re: What is the advantage of NOT cloaking?
What are those special cases? I don't even remember what happens when both sides are cloaked as it's been a while since I encountered that scenario. Only the Klingons and the Romulans can cloak, and the Klingons have relatively few cloaked ships. Also again you never said what the advantage of havin...

What is the advantage of NOT cloaking?
The recent talk about Romulan fast attack groups not being cloaked in another thread makes me ask, in the vanilla unmodded game, what is the advantage of NOT cloaking your ships? By default, the ships are not cloaked, and after attacking they don't cloak again unless you manually cloak them. This ha...

Re: Need help understanding a game mechanic?
I tend to neglect them, although I might build some if I'm fighting an empire on one side of my space and suddenly another empire declares war on me on the exact opposite side of my space when all my ships are on the other side of the galaxy (or at least my empire) and the computer can send fleets t...

Re: Need help understanding a game mechanic?
I swear on Vanilla I lose more ships to orbital platforms than I do to enemy fleets. Especially strike cruisers and battleships. Most of the danger of enemy fleets is that they attack my underdeveloped colonies that are still building basic structures and growing and haven't put in the orbitals need...

Re: To Ukraine and Russia
It's possible that if Russia wanted to destroy the Ukraine as an economic rival they can accomplish the goal by leaving the cities in shambles such that it takes years to rebuild and tons of money. After all, an economic and industrial powerhouse can convert industry to military equipment production.

Re: To Ukraine and Russia
So in other words the war is all but lost, and it's more of a resistance movement. There are bases left for heavy equipment like artillery, tanks, or planes, Russia has complete air superiority, and no hope of forcing them out. The only hope is international pressure to make Russia withdraw, and tha...

Re: To Ukraine and Russia
Almost a month later and it looks like they are going to let Russia take the Ukraine. They are not even doing a lend-lease type thing supplying war material to the Ukraine.

Re: BotF would make the perfect Tablet game.
Well, there is a clone that doesn't use trek names but is basically BoTF. However on my android phone the text is just too small to easily read with my aging eyes. This was true with both my HTC One X+ and my Samsung Galaxy S9.

Re: To Ukraine and Russia
I'm just thinking about what happened in both world wars when people attacked Russia, and now the U.S. is getting poised to do the same thing.

Re: Liberating "enemy" systems
I was playing Vanilla recently, and I had something similar. I was playing the Feds and was at war with the Klingons and the Romulans. I found a Klingon planet with Romulans on it, and when I attacked it I got the option to liberate it. When I did, the planet promptly got assigned to the Romulan Sta...

Some general advice that might help. Without asking for a lot more details I can't try to help you more, and that would derail the thread. I'd suggest posting on answers.microsoft.com and PM me with a link to the thread since I don't usually monitor things over there. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/...

Re: Windows Update strikes again
I recall that the wake on mouse could only be disabled with a USB mouse, not a PS/2 one. I couldn't find a BIOS option in an HP desktop 10 years ago, nor could 25 other techs. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/stop-mouse-from-waking-computer-no-power/2b79a6ca-f895-4364-9660-c4d9a...

Re: Windows Update strikes again
My PC woke up again of course this night which then woke me up. I think it's back to forced shutdown at a specific time. So sick of this. What's waking you up? If it's the light from the monitor, just about every monitor I have ever seen has a manual off switch or button, you can try using that whe...
