Re: Windows Update strikes again

A VM of an older Windows seems like a good idea. I haven't used any Linux distro in over 10 years, though it might be worth looking into that. Ah well, something funny happened. I ran Malwarebytes and it flagged my task to shutdown the PC as a Trojan.BitCoinMiner.E.Generic. 3 registry entries which ...

Re: Windows Update strikes again

Reading that you're still using 8.1 made me chuckle ^^ (der Mensch ist ein Gewohnheitstier ;) ) But if that's working out for you there's no reason to upgrade as long as you're getting updates for that OS. Since we're here on the BotF forum, I gotta say that I like to play older games every now and ...

Re: Windows Update strikes again

Back in 2015 my choice was either this PSU or an Enermax Platimax 750w or whatever it was called. I always heard good things about BeQuiet from multiple people. But manufacturers all can have good lines and terrible ones unrelated to pricing. I mean, just because Gigabyte had this recent PSU scandal...

Re: Windows Update strikes again

What's waking you up? If it's the light from the monitor, just about every monitor I have ever seen has a manual off switch or button, you can try using that when you go to bed. If it's sound, turn off the speakers. I started using standby mode so that I don't have to turn off things manually. Perh...

Re: The new Star Treks...

Prime reminds me of well, Amazon. I always have a hard time with naming, so I sadly can't offer an alternative at this moment. A wiki is a long-term project and lives by the contributors. I can imagine it to be time consuming, too. Esp. when only a few people maintain it and write articles in the fi...

Re: Windows Update strikes again

I think, yea more I hope that I found the solution to the explorer issues. And now I feel a bit silly because I had this stuff deactivated for decades at this point. It's the drive indexing... There's also a LowDiskSpaceCheck function which may have been responsible for the spin ups. However, I had ...

Re: The new Star Treks...

I was definitely not trying to trigger you. I haven't been on ST wikis (alpha, beta) for years now. I'm not a huge fan of wikis in general. I think for wikipedia in general there's a rule that older users have authority over newer ones. A lot of manipulation can and does take place there. And the am...

Re: Windows Update strikes again

Just found out that fast startup was enabled. A bit odd since I recall having it deactivated a couple of times. Perhaps that's the culprit. At least I remember seeing that as a reason for multiple restart-related issues in the past. Probably have to check that now every time after a major update was...

Re: The new Star Treks...

I'm not entirely sure why you feel the need to make a new ST wiki. I haven't visited memory-alpha in quite some time. So, not sure if much has changed there. The old TV-shows we know and love can't be edited away by some people, however. So, I'd pick my battles wisely and focus my energy on worthwil...

Re: Windows Update strikes again

Win 10 standby and update is driving me nuts for quite some time now. It all started with some update back in '19. PC just wakes up randomly at night for some update which is great for my energy bill. I've tried all kinds of settings to no avail. Only thing that helps preventing random wake-ups is a...

Re: BIG NEWS! Many old Trek games (including Armada1&2) coming to GoG!

Win 7/8/10 support is really nice for those old games. GOG usually gets this done right where Steam can't be bothered.

Re: Economies of Star Trek

I like the BORG Queen. She gave the BORG direction and a face. It made them less mysterious, though. I think The Orville explained the credit system better than Star Trek ever did ^^ They always seemed to avoid the "money topic" for some reason. They probably feared to be labeled communist...

Re: The world is a hologram

Reminds me of the latest ethereal building of the Science never Ends mod for Rimworld. I love that game. I'm currently running it with 400+ mods installed. It's fun to create my own ideology and just build a colony. Insane game, nothing like it but damn it can be cruel.

Re: What would you have done different with Vanilla BOTF?

Not sure if I'd change anything about Vanilla. I guess it'd be nice to have stuff from the other shows but we all know what kind of clusterfuck the ST licencing is. As eber3 wrote, the Ferg as a major power seem a bit off. However, it makes sense for them to expand and exploit and they make a good f...

Re: The world is a hologram

Interesting however would be what you see when we had a fourth receptor for ultra violet color like e.g. some birds have. Yea, kinda hard to imagine. Also not sure what to think of the perception of the Mantis Shrimp which has like 12-16 different receptors. Truly fascinating animal. Axis, what's t...
