There are several position in the ship.lst that are designated as Specials - needs utopia.
When you move the ship order around, this can get a little wacky. Goto UE and I think it is the 2nd page at the top is a checkbox. If this is checked, undo it. You may need to start a new game.

You could always burn the Iso to a disk, and install it that way, or I have an install in my Shared Folder. Carcher used it, and it worked fine. Just download them and extract. There is a txt document which gives more detail. It is a Vanilla which was used for stable MP.

I Have a newer Laptop with Vista, but is it much slower than one with XP which is over 5 years old.

The only way to speed up turn time is to use a 4gig pen drive on readyboost.
