Re: Anyone else hit by the Lavabit shutdown?

I agree with you Flocke. When you give up security for freedom soon you have neither. Power corrupts and power wants to grow and grow. The only thing that keeps it in check is a populace not willing to tolerate the I can do anything I want from the elite/those in power. Perhaps at this point in time...

Re: Should Buying things be allowed?

That is definitely an interesting idea. It would reduce the use of the buy button since prices would be inflated, at least until some industry was put into the item. Another possible idea is to limit what the buy button can purchase. One of the original reasons was to control the amount of ships in ...

Re: Anyone else hit by the Lavabit shutdown?

I understand some tracking will occur and I personally don't mind if a site notes what I am looking at and suggests related items. For example you search for Star Trek on Amazon and it suggests other Star Trek items. Or on Google you run a search for Star Trek and the ads on the side are about Star ...

Re: BOTF appreciation thread

I agree 100%! Wait? Can I buy more appreciation points or do I need to wait for systems to build them? ;-) To all those that have poured heart, soul, blood, and tears into modding and keeping development of BotF and its clones alive: THANK YOU! :-) It is very cool to see all this activity. It may be...

Re: Anyone else hit by the Lavabit shutdown?

While it is true the NSA can't read or analyze all the data they receive with human eyes there are still several issues. 1) As mentioned they don't have to humanly look at all data. Commercial products like HaDoop are getting better and better and better at analyzing terabytes and petabytes of data ...

Re: Anyone else hit by the Lavabit shutdown?

I will say good for them for sticking it to the NSA. I am an American and don't support our growing government at all! It has been growing under both parties. Snowden, may not be totally clean, but he did leak important news. There are Americans that are outraged over all this NSA spying. I don't su...

Re: Should Buying things be allowed?

I understand the concern about changing the way the game functions. For good or bad we have all gotten used to the construct of the game as-is. Since you can't link systems together or share industry points globally, as you do with research, removing the buy button would create an issue. I, for one,...

Re: Should Buying things be allowed?

Wow, you know PHP? Awesome, a volunteer to fix the forum or set up a new site! I have written a lot of PHP code in my days. I have coded complex Perl and PHP MySQL multi-user systems from the ground up, hacked/edited other projects like shopping carts, Wordpress, etc, and generated countl...

Re: Should Buying things be allowed?

QuasarDonkey, that is interesting. I guess MicroProse programmers thought about that and either didn't have the time to code it or were laying the foundation for future versions. It is to bad you can't somehow export resources from one system to another or just have global resources and allocate the...

Re: Should Buying things be allowed?

I really like BotF, don't get me wrong, but I wish this part would be reworked. 1) As stated I would like systems to interact with each other. They are just standalone environments and in a real empire they would help each other. Why can't you have food systems that are able to ship food around your...

Re: Should Buying things be allowed?

I agree that it is to bad industry must be wasted. If there are multiple items in a build queue the workers should move on to the next item. So if 532 is needed and 1,000 are produced by the system the remaining 468 should be added to the next item.

Re: Should Buying things be allowed?

ruthlessferengi, yes that's true but the original point is why should it change because you "buy" something? If replicators are being used then why don't the workers do that every time? If you can buy 10,000 units of output which is really like buying extra time why can't the workers outpu...

Re: Should Buying things be allowed?

pal28, I think you missed the point. As you know the game works by using industry points to build items. This is, obviously, the amount of work workers can output in a given turn. So how can you buy more work output? If a ship takes 10,000 industry points to build and the system produces 1,000 indus...

Re: Should Buying things be allowed?

Perhaps you are hiring some day laborers. ;-) Or perhaps the ship yards are working over time with all the industry credits being poured into them. QuasarDonkey's idea is probably the best and easiest way to change the behavior of the buy button, at least for a single player game. What would make mo...

Re: Planetary Assaults - Morale Management (Damage Control)

I understand on the console. I had an Xbox 360 die several months ago but all I really used it for was to stream Netflix. Thus I just replaced it with a cheaper streaming box - WD TV Live. Then I gutted the Xbox 360 and sold many of the parts on eBay, which ended up covering the cost of the WD box. ...
