These are part of both ISO 8859-1 and Windows-1252. UE converts them to:
® = 0xAE
© = 0xA9
They should be working, unless BOTF uses some weird character encoding variant.

Not, ever going to happen! I even still had the browser tab open, but have been too busy to investigate it. A few other requests and suggestions I still have on my todo list.

The curley bracket encoding is same. Like already said, Windows-1252 encoding just adds support for previously undefined and therefore defaulted characters. I see no reason why to roll it back.
Plus for the curley brackets you mentioned issues before.

The fnt file would need to be fixed like other files have been. 28 font only has capital letters and only a couple symbols

Thank you, but there is something wrong. All five are darker (grayish) than before and the new special symbols are too small/thin:

as for "darker (grayish)" color is controlled by trek, and I did not change color.

yeah I cheated on symbols I use 20.fnt and did not resize them, when resized they looked worse.

here is new font for symbols (zoom 300 just to see better here)

No important issue, so not worth spending more time for it. Your new size is fine. The color issue is main reason I removed them again:

I used only the 'add files' tool for stbof.res and got the changed color effect for all races.
Re-adding original files re-set colors to normal. Is the UE dev version somehow messing with the files?

Just re-tested your files with vanilla (a deviation sample; above default / below new - ingame looks worse than this pic):

It is interesting, sub 0048B6C0 (for_dstring_eax_switch_to_capitals_with_umlauts) I think is always used with *28.fnt

so did a few tests removing new font that was added

without de-bugging sub it looks like if sub reads unexpected spaces with font it goes darker?

closest I could get without getting darker was only adding the "-"
is there other symbols that would be needed?

Edit; did you also notice "TURN X" got darker and it is a different color.

Looks perfect, I'd like to use them in ECM (if no other unexpected strange side effects...).

I also updated ECM lexicon.dic, shipname.bin and starname.bin again, so stbof.res files can be bundled for the update (if different resolutions allow this).
Shiplist.sst(s) still last I sent your for ECM & ECMS, so no extra hassle with ECMS this time.

Still have to check latest trek.exe patches (add/remove one each for Pop Growth IIRC) and other post by Tethys....

correct lex and bins are "base" file so are shiplist files, even ECMS, just drop and compile.

started a test game of MUM at turn 76 AI is doing very well, maybe too well
