Question about directing MPR install

Post by Dewbacca »

I enjoy playing TC's No Building Upgrade Mod and once attempted to "MPR" it, but it wasn't an option in the installation menu.

Seems I read a post somewhere that discussed pointing it at "other mods" but that post quickly moved to discussing model conversions and I never comprehended the process of directing the install elsewhere.

I've since moved on to the idea of applying TC's concept of no upgrades to the open ECM 3.0 (I think it is with the most up to date improvements) but this idea keeps at the back of my mind, how should we approach the MPR improvement to other mods (model conversions well discussed).

As usual, many thanks to the Community for keeping the game alive, Flocke for his time and commitment to the MPR++ epiphany and ingenious replacement of the Falcon with the Ogre...

and of course TC for his work with the installer package for 1.0.2, ECM, NBU, and countless other improvements and visions over the years.

easiest way, never done this myself

if shiplist has been changed in any way on NBU mod this will not work I have not installed NBU mod in a very long time so I have no idea if it has been edited from ECM mod

install multi-installer (vanilla)

install ECM mod

install NBU mod

create backup of ECM stbof.res and trek.exe (copy/move to my documents)

move the stbof.res and trek.exe from NBU mod install to ECM install path run MPR++ installer on ECM
move stbof.res and trek.exe back to NBU mod install path

move backup you first created of stbof.res and trek.exe to ECM install path

after that any new files that MPR++ added to ECM needs to be copied to NBU mod install path

good luck

I just thought of a different way. (I have tested this)

If you are comfortable with editing the registry a little.

make note of the value for data
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microprose\Star Trek: NBU\Version (you should reset when finished)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microprose\Star Trek: ECM
to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microprose\Star Trek: ECM1

then change
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microprose\Star Trek: NBU
to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microprose\Star Trek: ECM

then run MPR++ demo installer on "Error Correction mod normal"

then reset registries to the way they originally were.

reset HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microprose\Star Trek: NBU\Version to original data

Un-installer for NBU mod will not work so you would need to uninstall full mod to go back to normal.

mpr++ installer must be ran for each mod.

when running installer read each page of installer on one page "select components" from dropdown menu select mod you want to install MPR++ to (original mod must be installed first AAM, ECM, UDM, BOP or fluid mod)

MPR++ is only a graphic patch

I did that but nothing is changed in the mod folder and Im still getting combat crashes with a large number of ships. I followed the instructions listed above to get the correct files in the mod install folder and cannot see a difference. I am supposed to install error correction large right? The install program goes to the start menu and not the install folder to ask for install location. So i copied trek.exe and stbotf.res to the main program folder botf and then installed error correction to start menu/ micropose/ birth of the federation. It installed new files but Im still getting combat crashes. I guess my problem is I dont know how to find the aam large folder when the mpr++ install program sends me to the start menu.

ignore everything in this topic above. (this was special instructions for mod not available for MPR++)

first install multi installer
https://www.armadafleetcommand.com/get- ... le_id=1958

next install Error correction mod (install with large option if desired)
Error correction mod is installed in different folder default folder "ECM" and or "ECML" folders
https://www.armadafleetcommand.com/get- ... le_id=1958

now run MPR++ installer and on "select components" page from drop down menu select Error correction mod (normal) if desired.

run MPR++ installer again on "select components" page from drop down menu select Error correction mod (large) if desired.

sorry my bad, you are right aam is not available for MPR++.

AAM is missing too many ships from the current mpr++ build.
