Re: Yet Another BotF Clone
Of course. My highest priority now is the networking. It doesn't make sense to implement all the game mechanics & turn processing without human/AI players.
One of the main advantages is the motivational factor. I find I become much more productive when I can see progress being made (visually). Once I finish networking, I'm predicting progress on gameplay will sky-rocket.
No promises, but I'm hoping to have the first fully playable demo within the next few weeks (just the basics; no sound, AI, diplomacy, etc.).

Fantastic news! I wish you the best QD. I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to test it for you as well.

Don't worry, you'll have a chance very soon (within a week or two). And there's lots to do. I'm currently revising some of the basic code. I'm trying to sanitize the codebase and get everything consistent before open-sourcing.Dr_Breen wrote:i am more eager to implement something....
On that note, does anyone have preferences in terms of the version control system? Sourceforge gives the option of Subversion (svn), Git, Mercurial (hg), Bazaar, or CVS. I'm gravitating toward either Mercurial or Subversion.

I prefer the best language that would be easy to learn...
Thank you for the hard work !!!

Anjel, if you are bored and itching, i added some pictures to the list of the ships we would like to have in BOTF...; you did a wonderful job with the Vesta class, and I know you can do even better with these ones ;

Random screenshot:
The Load screen works! (it didn't work before)
In order to add networking support, I have to go back and add full Load/Save support, using BotF SAV files (special thanks to Flocke for keeping the BotF wiki up to date). It's coming along nicely (we'll have full save capability soon). Also, as part of refactoring, I've finished recoding the file/Zip/Sav I/O library (it's now O.S./processor-independent). It may not sound exciting, but it's a good step forward.
Bear in mind there's still no actual gameplay though.
I've been working on it the last week straight, and I'll continue through Christmas Eve. Then I'm taking a week off
I'll try get the source code online by early January.
While networking is not yet working, the networking screens are coded up:

Re: Yet Another BotF Clone
Wow nice screen shots,
It looks like you have made great progress on this project. I can't wait to get my hands on the demo. But I guess we all will have to wait a little longer.
But thumbs up to all your hard work.

Re: Yet Another BotF Clone
nice work, looking forward to your demo too
the wiki actually really needs an update to it's software, but it's rarely used anyway and just works so I rather spend my time on coding too
Wish you a good christmas coding QD!

niiiice, good to know the project it´s having firm steps. I know that every update you made it has a lot of work behind, maybe we don´t see it, but the hard work it´s there. So keep up with great work you are doing.
And i wish you merry christmas coding !!! lol
