STO release

Post by KrazeeXXL » Fri Sep 04, 2009 11:54 am

a friend of mine recently gave me the information...

so, for those of you who have enough time... they take applications for Star Trek Online beta atm. With a bit luck you can become beta tester.

check out http://www.startrekonline.com

I signed up, woo. Too bad they didn't ask any Star Trek trivia questions. :) I wonder how many people will be chosen?

Yep, I got that email as well. :)

I'm still torn over whether or not I'm going to get STO. On the one hand, it holds enormous appeal for me. On the other, I'm very much against having to pay a monthly fee to play a game I've already purchased. I suspect I'll still be waffling when February rolls around.... :?

We should make our own Multiplayer persistant galaxy game with BOTF.
Tell me again... where are we going, and why are we in a handbasket?

I guess there are many good ideas for BotF. I've got quite a mass of them, too. But it unfortunally lacks with the transcription :/

Wait, you have to pay a monthly fee? I guess I will be passing. That is why I love Guild Wars so much, no monthly fee at all.

My guess is, it will not last more than 6 months, I give it a year, before it's pulled.

now I finally have clearance about a very important thing concerning the ST universe :D
startrekonline.com wrote:Q: How does the new Star Trek movie affect Star Trek Online?

A: Star Trek Online exists in the Star Trek universe's "standard timeline," whereas the latest Star Trek movie exists in an alternate timeline created when Nero and Spock entered a singularity and were transported back in time. For a full explanation, please see our article explaining how Star Trek XI affects Star Trek Online.
so the new movie is an alternate timeline which is absolutely unimportant

man that's the words I wanted to hear! our ST universe is "safe" and I will start to discover it in something about 3 hours from now on :D

edit:
My guess is, it will not last more than 6 months, I give it a year, before it's pulled.
nonsense ;)

I must admit that I am not really thrilled about this game.
That the Akira is the tier 2 escort while the Defiant is a tier 3 is strange enough.
But that the Klingons use an "upgraded" (= supersized) Raptor class is not really creative.
Not to mention the selection of other ships, like

B’rel Bird of Prey
Bird of Prey Mk. 1
Bird of Prey Mk. 2
Raptor Mk. 1
Bird of Prey Mk. 3
Raptor Mk. 2

etc.

hm... I'd say... create an account, log in and tell 'em about their in your eyes bad decisions. I guess some things will and have to change.

I'm not an expert of ships. there are too much and every day you can find some more. For me it is sometimes confusing so I can't blame them for making some mistakes there.

but again, if noone makes discussions about this facts then nothing will change...

I've been playing STO Open beta over the course of 3 days, and it looks very promising.

Klingon play is very limited at the moment, it is heavily focused on PvP, with not much story to follow. The Federation on the other hand, has both PvP and PvE story elements to it, and is very fun to play.

Space combat is a blast (excuse the pun), though it takes a bit of getting used to. Ground combat is ok, but the movements are a little sluggish at the moment.

To be fair, not all the content is unlocked with it still being in beta; Cardassians and Romulans are to be unlocked eventually. Good game so far, nothing will beat BOTF for longevity though. :)

Hope you like. Open beta should be ending in a few days.

Looks cool. Too bad I wont be getting it..

Not a fan of pay-as-you-play games nor the new ship designs...

The beta is finished but the headstart-weekend will begin tomorrow evening (gmt). but only if you've preordered the game.

until 2nd february you can get a lifetime abo for 170€ to avoid the monthly fee (but only in association with a pre-order-kit).

The ship design looks indeed a bit different to that I was used to. But I liked the ships even with the low graphic settings on my system.

here a pic of my mean little monster ship:
some mixture of Ushaan, Rapier and Saber Class vessels. It kicked a.. and I was kinda sad as the beta was over.

I even survived a Borg Sphere which was 32 Levels above mine for unbelievable 10 seconds! ;)

my short result of STO:
- awesome space battles (you have to get used to as Chris already told)
- annoying and awful ground combat which didn't happen too often (thank god)
- too agressive, I missed the "Star Trek Solutions" - trekmosphere
- addicting - satisfied the old hunter-gatherer in me
- lots of potential (interesting story approaches -sometimes odd but I like surprises)

I just can assent Flocke. If you don't really think about it you can have some fun playing it.

Star Trek fans have always high standards in everything what has to do with ST. Imo there will be ppl who love and ppl who hate it. It's nice for some distraction at the end of a long day. But I expected somehow more of a ST universe.

after JJ's movie and STO... I have to say that... if I wasn't a fan for almost my whole life then I would have some problems to seperate Star Trek from Star Wars tbh

I guess its time for something new... I can smell death in the air. ooh that are my feet
