For a time his legal name wasn't even a word, it was a symbol. Eventually he changed it back to Prince because it's a little hard to give somebody your legal name when that requires you to be able to hand them a picture of your symbol.

well just for fun... captains can be like chinese emperors... changing their name every time they won a battle or pushed for a new law... some chinese emperors had like 5 or 6 names

Actually, Stewart/Picard is speaking "atlantic" english, meaning it does not belong to either UK or the US, but falls in between instead. What I hear of it, it is quite pure in fact.
