trek.icd - virus infection or false positive?

I was doing a full system scan with Avast, and it recognized all my trek.icd as being infected. I am thinking it was a false positive, but has anyone else experienced this problem?

Also, in the process, the scanner ended up deleting the trek.icd file for my Hades install. :( I have the trek.icd from the CD-rom version... are they identical? If not, can anyone send me a copy of trek.icd from Hades 1.1? I didn't want to have to install again and wipe all my settings. Thanks. :)

Have you tried to run BOTF? if you have "no cd" setup or use multi installer it may not be needed.

I just removed the "trek.icd" file and game seemed to play normaly.

from what I found doing search on icd file extention it is a file to check for cd in cd rom by safedisc (Encrypted Digital Rights Management File)

I am tempted to remove it from multi installer, if some more testing is done to comfirm this file is no longer needed.

EDIT; I did some more checking of my older files from my files the trek.icd that is used is the one from jokers patch and is identical to the file released in the official 1.0.2 patch byte for byte compaired with ultraedit.

Interesting. Yes it does seem to run fine without the file. Others have reported the problem on google so it seems like a false positive in the file. I guess if it isn't needed, it might save some hassle to just eliminate it like you said.

maybe it's related to online play?

back when it was microsoft runnin the multiplayer stuff, and modding for the game was nonexistant, you know, the MSN gaming zone, After a corruption of my comp corrupted a few files here and there on my system, BOTF stopped working online, but offline play was okay.

I think that would be a good idea.
Someone already reported same issue just recently:

SCT pointed out that trek.icd is the encrypted game executable which previously has been used by the copyprotection that originally has been named "trek.exe" but is alot smaller. The copyprotection then got replaced with the decrypted trek.icd so trek.icd should be out of use by now and will only lead to more confusion I guess.

I had no issues playing without.

Weird, I run Avast all the time and have never had a problem with any of the Botf files. Although I have noticed it takes a long time to process through that folder, it never detects anything or gives me a warning.

I run Avira AntiVir and it also picked up trek.icd as a threat along with parts of the other multi-installer games I have installed.

since the false positive by antivirus companies is increasing I have removed all multi installer files from this site. Until the anti virus companies change the status of icd file or new files are created.

were only trek.icd from mods only other files picked up?

Uh, why would you remove the entire multi-installer?

correction to my scan... I posted when scan was in progress (and after it scanned botf folders and didn't say infected files: 3 until AFTER scan was complete.)

Avast IS did report them infected.

Avast claims: (for trek.icd)

Malware name: Win32:Malware-gen
Malware type: Virus/Worm

Does it for both multi-installer and my cd-rom version.
