What we really need is a list of graphics cards and drivers that actually allow the game to play well...

Even a fantastic graphic card will still lag due to the issues within the game.
It is the biggest resource hog I have ever seen.

Just a question....

If any other program used as much resources as botf did, how long before we would get rid of it?
But botf never does?

good point.

that said though when BOTF's running you aren't likely to have much else running on the pc at the time anyway...

on the other hand if my media player acted like BOTF it'll get tiring very quicky as i'll be using the net, notepad, word and crud knows what else at the same time.

What if your internet browser was like it,

You click on a link, and the cursur started spinning on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and etc.

Note: If you read all of that, you need serious help lol

well we could all post our results playing with our own cards...with time we should get a useful list, which tesl, which graphiccards work, and which are worst, i think the border is somewhere between the 7000 and 8000 series for nvidia, i can't tell for ATI cause i never had an ati card.

here's my card: Nvidia geforce 7950gtx with 512 mb (memory on the card itself)

result: no lag until about turn 150, after that minor lags when zooming out.

I have an onboard card on my laptop, (I know they are crap, but saved on space)

I played a SP game with UDMIII yesterday, and the lag did not set in until turn about 400 then within a few turns it was up to 5 minutes

It is not just the graphics card, but also your processor and ram, botf eats them all, YUM YUM! lol

theres 2 different kinds of laag, the one when you go to the next turn, there the graphiccard has nearly no influence. the other one is the one most of us talking about i think...it happens ingame, especially when you zoom out the mouse is more bouncing around then doing smooth movements

I have no real issue with either of these until I get to real high turns, even then my mouse is fine even zoomed ouy on a large galaxy,

The bane of my life is the turn time, and I am a really impatient person... lol

one of the rare cases where onboard graphics seem to work better than expensive 3d cards.

back to our drive experiment: did anyone try to use an older driver with a newer 8000 or 9000 series card? and did it work? any effects in botf?

 i can scan read very quicky :P

as for the graphics card, i'll have to have a look.

By extroadinary chance the pc i'm using as my own WAS the old family home pc that we bought just after getting BOTF when it first came out. (i've upped the hard drives to 300GB and a couple of other minor tweaks, but aside from that it's the same.)
How wierd is that?

My computer at work is:

HP Compaq
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 5000+
thats 2.59GHz. 2GB Ram and ATI Radeon Xpress 1150,

I only use this testing changes, but I have no problem except with turn time.

I sound like a scratched record ..... turn time ..... turn time......... turn time... lol

Hehe we're always talking about turn time for Supremacy as well. :P

I've got a Pentium 4 540 Processor @ 3.21Ghz, a Radeon X1650 Graphics Card, and 1Gb RAM. Turn times are pretty good, but they do start to lag after a few hundred turns. But then I restart so it's not a problem. :P

Hello guys!

I have the same problem as the others with 8er cards.

I run a P4 with 3.0 GhZ
3 GB RAM
Win XP SP3
and a
8800 GT

I also have the lags of the cursor when moving on the map...

hopefully someone will be able to create a 8800 GT patch/fix

It seems there was errors with the high end 8xxx series graphics cards (unless you got the G92 chipped ones) so if you have those expect graphical lag.

As for turn lag its RAM and Pagefile dependant. If you have 1GB of ram expect up to 400 turns before lag. If you have more then no worries.

Currently I am running Phenom 9800BE Quad-core with 4GB Ram and a 9600GT graphics card (replacing for a 4870x2 soon). No lag issues at all, though because I am running Server 2008 x64 version I get regular crashes with the game. However it loads so fast its no problem :)

I thought a Graphics card for 129 € can't be too high end but hey^^

Anyways I forgot to say I also have installed UMod2 but not mater if I play a "clean" BOTF or with the mod I still have the lags....( just in case this is important for anyone trying to fix this problem)
