on the armada part of this site (armadafleetcommand.com/afc) there's already a few topics about this but no solution so i thought why not ask here for once as well.
Does anyone still play this awesome game? anyone with a geforce 9? it seems armada 1 does not like directX9 / 10. is there any way to play it anyway? unfortunatly i have no onboard graphics and it looks like virtualbox and vmware cant handle directx 7 (they can handle directx9 tough)
i just found the game files when cleaning my HD and tried to start it, with 50% success, menu and stuff is fine, but the actual game is a mess.

the sound can be fixed easily
You need to turn down your sound card acceleration
Go to: Control panel ---> sound and audio device properties ---> click audio tab at the top ---> advanced ---> performance.
Even with a fast PC this still needs to be turned down almost all the way. Just set it lower until problem goes away. Doesn't seem to effect game play at all but it will fix the garbled and fast forward problem.
still waiting for an input about the graphical thing

just tried VPC. the game starts, but highest resolution is 640x480. According to Microsoft VPC does not support directx at all. and the mouse is not working ingame unfortunatly. so no chane using that either.
i read somewhere that it is possible to pack directx orders into OpenGL orders. does anyone have an idea how that works?

just got Omega. Unfortunatly theres no omega driver for the GF 9 series. there are plenty for geforce 8 (up to 8800 Ultra) which might be a solution for Buzzlightbeer. i tried to force my Graphics card to use the 8800 Ultra driver but it says that this drivers is not made for win 7 64 bit.
i will check the DNA drivers now
Edit:
DNA drivers install fine. but they have no effect. in fact it seems to me the game looks even worse.
got any other suggestions?
