Help with installing mods / adding files to stbof.res

I have spent the last 24 hours trying to install mods, which I had done successfully on my old computer, but now seem incapable of doing. The mods I have been trying to install are ones where you add files to sfbof.res such as the epic gaming mod or the Prime Directive Mod.

I open the sfbof.res file using winzip and add the files in question. It takes 20-30 seconds but everything seems fine. I then try to run the game but just get a black screen and CTRL+ATL+DEL says the programme is not responding. I have uninstalled and then re-installed the game several times (from both my original CD and the download from this site). Each time the game runs fine until I try and install a mod.

Like I said I have done this successfully in the past so can only assume that I am doing something stupid this time round. Anyone have an ideas as to what it could be?

newer versions of winwip no longer works on "res" files use winrar

or extract files to a folder and use UE to add files
