I forget how Raiding works. I just met the Ferengi. Damn, I wish I didn't go through that worm hole just yet. Well now the Ferengi has made some trade to two of my planets.
So I tried to use some ships to raid the trade. Well so far nothing. Mind you it's only 15% so I am not sure if it's too low, or I would have to be at the Ferengi planet to have a successfull raid.
Also can I raid if we are just neutrel to each other or do we have to be at war? I don't think you can raid if you are friends or in an allience, but who knows, I forget how trade works.
Can someone remind me how to do a successfull Raid.
Can you only Raid only in your opponents planet?

First of all, yes 15% is too low to ensure a reasonable chance of a successful raid. Personally, I find I need a minimum 60% chance to have successful raids on a(n at least somewhat) regular basis. 100% or more is better.
Secondly, if you're talking about raiding a trade route, you do need to be raiding one of the systems that's originating said trade route. So in your case, yes, you would need to raid the Ferengi planet.

That's pretty much correct. You can only raid anyone if you're either at war with them, or if are neutral and have no treaty with them. Any sort of treaty, though -- even just a simple nonaggression pact -- will prevent you from raiding another empire.

Just make sure you're using only fast attack ships (destroyers, raiders, escorts, etc.). Cruisers, strike cruisers, and battleships do marginally add to the chance for a successful raid, but not enough to justify using them for that purpose; they're generally better employed elsewhere.
Also, again, I strongly recommend using enough fast attack vessels to give you a 60% raid chance or better -- and I would shoot for at least a 100% chance if at all possible.

Oh yeah, now i remember something about using fast attack vessels. I never had anything go above 100% in a game. I can have 900%? WOW, I will need to try that.
Now here is a stupid question. How can you tell is something is a fast attack vessel? Would that be destroyers only? What else is considered a fast attack vessel?
Thank you for your posts Dr Breen and Martok.

The highest percentage I've personally seen is something like 340%. However, 100-250% is more the norm in my games.

Generally speaking, you're talking about scout ships, destroyers, raiders, frigates, and escorts.
Basically, if a ship's purpose is listed as either "for exploration and reconnaissance", or "for raiding strikes and border patrols", that's a fast attack vessel.
