can't run game
I used to play the game and mods and everything was fine.
Now, since I got SP2 (on winXP Pro) I'm having some problems.
I can run the game normally. After I get it up to 1.02 I have to find some other trek.exe (because the normall one says can't find cd). And also, I have to use joker's patch.
Okay, got the game working at 1.02.
However, as soon as I try to add any mod content (even simply standard for modders) the game won't run anymore. Black screen and that's it.
any ideas,anyone?

I've already tried to help nana via PM, but i'm at a blank as to what's causing this as well.
I've advised nana that SP3 is now available for download, so nana might be upgrading to that soon though.

That's always a possibility, but SP3 will bring other benefits anyway - more security, faster MS Office, and whatnot, so worth it anyway.
So does anyone know how to help?

When you are installing your mod content, are you using winzip?
Newer versions of Winzip have been found to corrupt stbotf.res, rendering your game useless.
Try downloading Winrar, which, from talking to the community, is the most common zipping tool used.

well thanks a bunch!
I never would of thought that to be the problem. I of course use both winzip and winrar and it never occurred to me to try doint this with rar!
it works now! thanks, I can get back to experimenting mods and changing stuff
anyway, I believe this information should be put somewhere to help others.
thanks again

...I thought i'd already mentioned this to you in my uber PM?
*ahem if I didn't*
Winzip 11 zips files in a way that BOTF doesn't understand, nana. They changed the zipping system from the way it worked in Winzip 10 and below. It wasn't a case of Winzip being incompatible with Winrar, it was simply a case of Winzip being different.

The definition of Incompatible is: "unsuitable for use together".
Which means that they are unsuitable, hence incompatible.

Sorry MOE, I just love being a smart ar*e.

If I were an admin on these forums, you'd have a new rank by now, sean.

My next rank is another 86 posts away.
I know some people will critisied me for the number of posts I have made, but I would just like to say that I am on line at home and work, from about 10 am until midnight normally during the week. I am dedicated to botf, and am even working on my own mod.

I had over four THOUSAND posts on the BOTF2 forums, Sean. I was the top poster on there, and had more posts than those ranked at second third and fourth combined. And I was actually a forum admin on there.
I'm doing my best to get back to where I was on here.
So have we finished with our geekiness? Or can you think of something else for us to geek about?
