Just tested vanilla and your right -- i'd always just clicked on the scroll bar to move it up and down -- have you made any progress with this Thunderchero?

No progress, I took a second look at it today and the *_shpdpy.wdf has a cutout (pink/transparent) area for that part of the screen and uses code from *maingal.wdf. And this area works correctly on other screens. I also checked to see if some of the non transparent area was covering button but this does not seem to be the case.

So I am thinking it is a code error in trek.exe between the 2 screen functions

This might be a way into understanding button functions in boft and may (one day, hoping beyond hope) of progressing the energy screen project. Do you know where in trek.exe the functions are?
