hello there, my name is chris. i am toying with the idea of using fighters and carriers in my botf mod.

i would like to know the communities experience/opinion with this concept.

i also have a couple of question about this topic:-

- does the ai use the towable fighters and carriers effectively if at all?
- does this option add to the botf experience?
- is it needed?

you can tell the AI to build the desired carrier and fighter models but the AI wont understand that thses ships have to be grouped in order to move. so all you get is an AI empire with fighters hanging around at their homeworld and carriers which will be sent to attack

it is different at least. it allows you adding ships to botf which are highly overpowered (cheap and heavily armed/armored)but with the big disadvatage of being unable to move when their carrier which is underpowered (expensive and with weak armory) gets destroyed.

my idea would look like this:

FIGTHER

cost: 1000
strength: 5000

cost vs use : 1/5

CARRIER

Cost: 20000
strength: 10000

cost vs use : 2/1 (or even worse, so carriers are still strong but it doesn't make sense to build a fleet of them as theyre to expensive)

you dont need a carrier specificly as the game will use any ship so best to think of shuttle type figters. you don't wouldn't use the carrier really. in the case of the fedz you'd team them with the difiant class so max speed.

i've never liked the discription of transwarp carries because they don't applie to the game mechanics of how fleets really work in game. the discriptions fine if you want a conceptual fleet but the mechanics do allow any ship to carry and range 3 vessel ... hence my mine suggestion for tethys.
