How Is Ship Defense Calculated?

I'm trying to figure out how ship defense is calculated so I can use meaningful numbers to balance a mod.

If a ship has a defense of 50, does that mean it has a 50% defense? What if the defense is 147? Does that mean the ship has a defesne of 147%

If ship A has a defense of 50, and ship B fires 10 torpedoes, does that mean half of them have a chance of missing the target? What if you factor in torpedo accuracy, lets say 150?

your confused @ least how i understand it
when you say defense are you talking the hull/shields
if so its not a percentage its a point system
say ship A has 50 armor 100 Shields
Ship B phaser is 50 and torpedo is 100
Ship a could take only one phaser and torpedo hit.
Understand higher number for torpedo means it doies more points of damage
Higher shields and hull mean it can take more damage fro enemies

No, it's not the shield/hull attributes. It's a separate attribute called defense that every ship has. You can change the number in UE just like you can change the shield and hull value. I'm pretty sure it's not just a random number that's there to look at. It does something for the ship's defense vs weapons.
