Binary & Trinary star systems

Post by Tethys »

Has anyone figured out or has even had the idea of adding in binary and trinary star systems? i mean its canon trek at least. plus i dont see any problems with adding in new animations in the galactic system screen would it be possible to mod in a second and even third sun in 3d combat?

To be frank id rather the modders continued their work (which has been excellent so far) on elements that improve the game play - which indeed they have been. So unfortunatley i have to cast a no.

It is quite possible to add new icons to simulate binary or trinary stars, but replacing them in combat is a whole different story. Stars have own Hob models and textures and trying to replace them could prove difficult, even though it is probably not impossible.

Imho, I think JBL has a point with his objection. While it could be done, it would be mere cosmetics, even though it would not only be more canon but more realistic in general, given that a fair percentage of all the stars in our galaxy are indeed binary or multiple stars. Personally, I doubt the result possible within the constraints of the game would justify the effort.

Cheers,

...of course, this was also true at the Birth of the Federation...

yeah we could replace one of the stars (red, blue,yellow,...) i never liked blue actually, it doesn't look natural, 2 or 3 little changes, and we would have a binary star system

That's disagreeable to hear. Maybe is just mere cosmetics. But enlarged black hole graphics, stars with a small planet or in the case of nebula replacing the whole background graphic in combat would be a much appreciated modding feature.

Hope one of the great modders find it worth to do so sometime.
I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.

Hey thanks, I totally forgot about this thread! Now that I know a little more about modding, I guess I could give this a try now! :D

I could only see this being implemented if we could rip the system generation gut out and get asteroid belt dilthium et al at the same time. -- big ask lots to re code. :(
