Birth of the Federation

Hi all,

I just checked, and I've been playing umod 2.0.0 for a long time. Must have played at least a thousand times.

I'm wondering what is the difference between version 2 and 3? Anything major, or just tweaks here and there?

I'm debating on upgrading to v3, but am tempted to try a different mod too.

um3 has phasers working

If you're talking about Dafedz' Ultimate Mod 3, you may even want to check out version 4. So far, Dafedz doesn't seem to have re-joined this site, but hopefully he will yet. Apart from working phasers, his most recent version has the Dominion as a playable race and a number of different updates and tweaks and it's definitely worth playing. Put in Dafedz own words: If you liked UM 2 and 3, you'll like UM 4 more. ;-).

Since UM 4 is not (yet) available through the downloads section, I can only recommend you try out UM 3.

i'd recommend UDM3 instead of UM4, far better gameplay imo

If anyone has a saved copy of the UM4 thread from before the crash, dafedz had links in that to where you could download it.

I'd rather like to wait until Dafedz decides to re-join this site, so to prevent making his stuff available again without his consent. So, until he re-joins, I'd kindly refer to trying out UM 3.

That's understandable.

I seem to remember something about phasers not working in 2. I must have applied a patch or something, cause they work fine for me. Maybe I'll check out 3/4 later.

I just installed the UDM3 mod with patch, love the intro! I blew off work today (called in sick LOL) so I can play botf

Um3 was the first mod i tried, it breathed life into a game i thought was dying.

i loved the new ships you got to lay with instead of the vanilla things, and lads of little things that all add up in the end to make the game fantastic again

Course i love the other mods as well, but this was the first

I have a question and I hope someone can answer it....
I have WinXP+SP2. Before SP2 I had no problems whatsoever. After SP2 I remember I had a lot of trouble getting botf to work. I can't remember how I got it to work in the end but it works.
It's version 1.02, no mods or anything, and it works.
But if I try to get any mod (I really want to try UM3), or even standard for modders, I can't get the game to work again...
So, I'm sure some of you have the same OS as me. How do I play UM3?
