Grew up on BOTF - can anyone please help me with a problem?
Good Morning all.
I've downloaded BOTF and have the .bin and .cue files - I'm running XP on an average Dell laptop.
Unfortunately, the game keeps randomly crashing and I've no idea what to do, I'm not the best with the technical side of computers though I have a fairly good understanding of intermediate stuff.
I would really appreciate any help that anyone might be able to offer.
Many regards

Hi Tangotangoone
Need more info
When you say randomly crashing, to a degree that's normal with BOTF
How often does it crash, how many turns on average?
And under what conditions i.e. are you always doing the same thing or in the same screen when it crashes?
Try to give a bit more detail
And welcome back to BOTF. Once you get it working there are lots of great Mods out there that have revitalised the game

Hi,
Make sure you have the Jokers patch, which fixes a lot of problems with XP.

Other than that, as Pigman says, crashes are quite normal with BOTF.

Sorry to interrupt~
But I've been getting the same problems too.. and from what I've read, its very common.
My game now crashes in teh combat screen, if I pick anything than evade.
I've installed Jokers patch and Hades patch.
I've also read to change the ini file so it reads 3d= software.
But it still crashes.
I'm using an integrated video card. I hope someone can help me~
Thanks

Every once in a while I've had problems where just one battle doesn't work, crashes no matter what I do. But it can usually be fixed. Try this, if the battle is instigated by you moving into a square, reload to previous turn and don't move there until a turn later. If it is instigated by an enemy moving into your square reload previous turn move away then try reintercepting them the next turn. If you can't do either of those just do automatic combat. Now try a battle somewhere else on a different turn. Is the problem still there? If so I'm afraid I have no more suggestions.CityHunter wrote:Yes, that's what I'm saying.
Everything I do aside from Evading crashes the game

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll give it a shot when I get home.
As for my computer, it has 2gb RAM. I had to upgrade it alittle while ago. (its a 5-6 year old Dell.. what did you expect?)
I've also read in teh general chat form that the Tactical Combat Fix could also be installed after the Joker, and Hades patch. So I'm going to give that a shot.
I'm pretty sure I've restarted the computer and uninstalled the game more than 20 times already... T_T
Newest situ: Yup, its still no good.

Ok, no it just crashed randomly, for different things. Sometimes it'll go 6/7 turns with no problems, sometimes it'll crash when clicking 'continue' from the menu screen.
I've had BOTF from a cd on this laptop before, and once I patched it with Jokers and Tactical it was absolutely fine. So based on that, no this beyond normal BOTF crashes. I also still seem to have it installed from when I had it on cd, and try to run trek.exe from there but no joy. Alsa, have tried applying a no-cd crack but it just fails - something about write protection.

Random Crashing or during Combat
I only play the single player and have eliminated most crashing by saving and reloading every 20 turns or so...
