Re: DxWnd pre-loaded for BotF (solves most windows 8/10 issues)
Hey guys i could use some help.Upon downloading i'm prompted to open DxWnd using another program, in which case I don't know what to select. I used internet explorer because if I didn't select anything then it wouldn't show up in my downloads. After it shows up in downloads it doesn't give me an option to extract files. Do i need to open DxWnd with a specific program? how do i extract the files?
I've been struggling with this for a couple hrs now, please help me!

Re: DxWnd pre-loaded for BotF (solves most windows 8/10 issues)
I am making progress! I extracted the files from Dxwnd and found BOTF in Dxwnd, it had the green circle beside it. I launched it, but its not displaying correctly. It's in black and white and zoomed and stretched at the same time... but no lag so that's progress.
Thunderchero, Thank you so much for your help so far. Do you have any suggestions to fix the display? I downloaded the full screen Dxwnd. Before Dxwnd I could get it to launch and it displayed fine, full screen and all. but had way too much lag

Re: DxWnd pre-loaded for BotF (solves most windows 8/10 issues)
Hi, for me a configured the properties of DxWnd like this:
- Put DxWnd as admin
- Put the compatibility of DxWnd on WINDOWS 8
I have no mouse lag with this configuration, try it!

After using Dxwnd I'm not sure if mouse lag is still an issue. I tried taking a screenshot of how its displaying right now, tell me what you think of it.
Again, thank you for helping with this, i'm not tech savvy but i'm trying.

never seen that one before.
so if you run game without DxWnd it displays normally?
did you install multi installer using direct3d setting?
and video driver info might be helpful
right now only thing I can think of is turning off morphological filtering and crossfire.

It displays perfectly running it without Dxwnd just has terrible lag. I installed it with vanilla, I don't recall seeing anything related to direct3d.
I've got a super cheap PC. AMD radeon HD 8330, though in another screen it says AMD A4-5000 APU 1.5, not sure what the difference is. 8 GB RAM

open DxWnd.exe select then right click "Birth of the Federation" in tab select modify.
in new window for DxWnd configuration, at bottom left in W box enter 800 then in H box enter 600 click ok and retest.
see if that works

Re: DxWnd pre-loaded for BotF (solves most windows 8/10 issues)
It is currently working with no mouse lag and in its full screen glory! although i'm not sure why its working, which kinda scares me. I didn't make any permanent changes, i launched it in window and it started working both in window and as full screen.
I did as you suggested before, and it didn't effect it. But as long as its working now then i'm good. I'm going to check my settings again for anything i might have changed. I did re download BOTF an hr ago. I checked the properties on BOTF and took it off the limited color and locked resolution of 620x 480 , maybe that was it.
Thanks Thunderchero!

I bet that was it, should have already asked that before, but is in first postsmoothgrandaddy wrote:I checked the properties on BOTF and took it off the limited color and locked resolution of 620x 480 , maybe that was it.
I also just tested with same display error as above, it was compatibility setting of "reduced color mode" selected on 8-bit (256) color

The trek.exe in install path (vanilla or mod) should not have any compatibility settings selected in properties
do not combine other fixes such as wine files, dgvoodoo2 files or MPR++ when using DxWnd
Re: DxWnd pre-loaded for BotF (solves most windows 8/10 issues)
Just installed this yesterday finally got it to work. All I can say is THANK YOU VERY MUCH for all your hard work you have done. I can finally play one of my favorite games again. I tried it on Win 8 couldn't get it to work. Tried when Win 10 came out couldn't work. Came here since I haven't been here for a long while saw this, tried it out and YES it finally works. Great job and again THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I had tried it before and it didn't work. I had tried almost every combination in properties. Only after reinstalling then changing the properties did it work.
Thanks for helping me out! i'm 150 turns in with no crashes.... amazing!

Re: DxWnd pre-loaded for BotF (solves most windows 8/10 issues)
Hi. First of all please let me apologise if I am breaking any rules posting this as I've only just joined this site. I have download the BOTF to my Windows 7 64 bit operating system and it just won't load up. Do I need to download a patch or something to get it working and if so can someone please tell me where it is located? Thanks in advance and again apologies if I have broken any rules
