UDM - How To Install
Help, please!
I am not getting Botf and UDM started!
I got 2 Files (BOTF_1_02_Engl_Germ_e.exe and UDMIII_3.....exe
Someday it worked (...), but now on every start-option (Botf german, english, UDM, UDM large) it always starts the regular BOTF (with Ferengi and without the Dominion).
I already tried different ways of Installation.
WTF?

Re: UDM - How To Install
install order;
if you have cd version installed at any time uninstall everything and delete botf folder if uninstaller does not delete it.
install BOTF_1.0.2_English_German_e.exe (do not change install path)
install UDMIII_3.0.1dd.exe (do not change install path)
you may also need to right click each trek.exe and run as admin to allow saving of games depending on OS.
to use UDM you need to run the proper trek.exe if you added shortcuts to your desktop it is named "Ultimate Dominion Mod III" or "Large Ultimate Dominion Mod III" if not use same file from start menu or trek.exe in UDM/UDML folder.

Re: UDM - How To Install
Thank you, but it still doesn´t work. I´ve deleted all of the files, and re-installed in / to the standard-folder, and gave administrator-rights to each of the trek.exe --> *hmpf*.

Re: UDM - How To Install
It´s still the same thing - just possible to enter the regular BOTF.
I didn´t close the DOS-screens (I´m kind of an exp. user)!
The OS ist Windows 7 64 bit. I re-installed the OS. "My" Version of BOTF and the UDM-Mod already worked! But - no more after a Windows Re-install.

Re: UDM - How To Install
Just go the UDM directory and run the trek.exe from there; If you can not find it or it does not work then maybe there is something with the install;
When i install on mine the dos windows close by themselves.

Re: UDM - How To Install
this makes me think you are just coping old install folders to newly installed OS? and not running the installers again.Nachtgold wrote: "My" Version of BOTF and the UDM-Mod already worked!
have you tried running from UDM folder of install path the trek.exe that has dominion icon?

Re: UDM - How To Install
I'd check the stbof.ini for paths whether they are correct in udm install
Re: UDM - How To Install
Thank you all for your answers.
I´ve installed the game + the mod several times - always with the same result.
"this makes me think you are just coping old install folders to newly installed OS? and not running the installers again." --> No:).
The paths are correct in every .ini.
One Question:
The Installation of the free version of BOTF is in C:\botf\, and is about 850 MB.
The sub-folders (UDM, UDML) are about 331 MB.
If I start trek.exe from here ("C:\botf\UDM"), the game has to read some files from C:\botf, so how does it know which file from which directory?
Other Mods were to integrate manually into stbotf.res...

Re: UDM - How To Install
no, if you run ("C:\botf\UDM\trek.exe") it only reads files in ("C:\botf\UDM") folder. the trek.exe has code to read the registry for location of files in a combination with reading the stbof.ini in the C:\botf\UDM folder.Nachtgold wrote:If I start trek.exe from here ("C:\botf\UDM"), the game has to read some files from C:\botf, so how does it know which file from which directory?
yes very old mods, this way there is no file switching and can play vanilla one day and play any mod without swapping files.Nachtgold wrote:Other Mods were to integrate manually into stbotf.res...

Code: Select all
CDPATH=C:\botf\UDM\
HDPATH=C:\botf\UDM\
Re: UDM - How To Install
...now I deleted the game again, cleared the registry (of every "botf") and re-installed to c:\botf --> same thing again *hmpf*.
Maybe I try to install the english version of the basic-game.
Any further suggestions?

Re: UDM - How To Install
in registry there should be entries for each mod in
win 64bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microprose
win 32bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microprose
e.g. "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microprose\Star Trek: UDM" with InstallPath set to C:\botf\UDM
I'm using german install too so this shouldn't matter, what counts is files in place and both stbof.ini and registry set correct like above
usually the installer should set up all correct

Thank you all for your help. It still doesn´t work - but it doesn´t matter:).
before reinstall of windows were you able to play UDM?--> Jap, I´ve installed the 2 files and burned them, without any note (I always write down the steps - when an installation was not easy).
