From the documentation:

As the name implies, this mod focuses primarily on re-balancing the game in every aspect. The original game showed some unique flaws like the infamous "upgrade and scrap exploit" or the availability of certain ship classes (Defiant, K'Vort) that were nearly unstoppable if used properly. The intention behind this mod is to bring the game to an equilibrium and remove the exploits while still keeping it close enough to the original to retain the unique BotF atmosphere. The changes include completely overhauled building and ship stats, as well as some significant modifications of game mechanics. However, it should still "feel" like BotF :)

This mod is available both in English and German language.

FEATURES:

-> (optional) version with increased map sizes, up to 52x39 squares

-> "No CD" Patch included

-> up to 8 additional (and fair!) starting systems on any starting level

-> more stars on the map, and more (up to 9) planets per star system

-> "upgrade and scrap" exploit resolved

-> "insta-terraforming" exploit resolved

-> less time-consuming building upgrades due to automatic upgrades

-> more ships than in the original game

-> new balance between industrial and economic outputs

-> AI players always build starbases and the newest ships

-> smooth advancement of minor races, with slower technological progress

-> completely re-balanced building and ship stats, reasonable weapon outputs for longer battles

-> many other tweaks and fixes

Edit Note: This post is totally not needed with the addition of the exe version of the game. For those new to the mod, don't let this post confuse you! :)

--------

Just to make sure...

The 'BoP v1.0b full' file can be downloaded on its own without any others and installed per instructions to get the most current version of the mod running.

Correct?

The files with "full" in their name will work on their own.

You can also go by the file size. Updates (which won't work on their own) are ~1-2MB each, and the full versions are ~35MB each :)

Hi everyone,

Both English and German versions of Balance of Power 1.2b have been added to download section. Both files use single click installer and use hades patch with nocd patch and are full up to date files.

You might want to read the documentation link on first post. But there are no new ships.

Hey Gowron, I've got a possible bug/issue:

I'm currently playing a Federation game, and last night got the Talarians to join me. However, they had no farms, despite having max population and level 4 factories & power plants. I figured you'd want to know (in case you didn't already, that is).

Martok,

This is an issue with the AI, it even happens in vanilla,

Thinks of the AI as a human.
If it can't have that minor, it is going to make your life hell. Then when they join you it is laughing at you.

Not really of course, but the AI does cheat, and this is one example.

I know it's a bug in the vanilla game. Believe me, I'm all too aware of that. :wink:

The thing is that the BoP mod is supposed to have fixed this happening to minor races -- which it does for the most part (and kudos to Gowron for that 8) ). This is the first time I've encountered the problem since I started playing the game with BOP installed. I don't know if there's anything Gowron can do to fix it, but I figured I should at least let him know about it. :)

Probably some sort of random generator that decides which - and how many - buildings newly acquired minors have.

Aha! I stand corrected, then. Thanks, Spocks-cuddly-tribble! :)

I'm having difficulties.

I'm trying to download and install the mod for 2 of my friends, but I'm not seeing the self-installer when I extract the files from the zipped folder. What exactly do I need to do to install the mod?
