Minor race intro speech files

Post by stardust »

Would I be right in assuming that all the sound files for the minor races can be found in English/German .snd? (depending on what language you have botf set to)

And if so what would I need to use in order to extract sound files from here to be modified?

I don't plan on modifying these files personally but i need to obtain them so I can pass them onto someone who does have this capability

never checked, but that's what I would assume as well.

use UltimateEditor of course! Why are you asking?
You know UE is the answer to nearly everything, don't you? =) *just kidding*

Ah excellent.

I did try using UE but I used one of DCER's dev versions and couldn't open it. Switching back to an older version remedied that though.

thanks :)

with UE open english.snd
edit>sounds>voices

from there you can extract single or all files or one large playable file.

You can also replace any file too.

There's quite a few obstacles when adding your own sounds to English.snd, as Beepo and myself found.

For a start, the frequency has to be set to 22050 hz,
set to mono, 16 bit.

Format has to be DVI/IMA ADPCM (*wav) to save it as a .wav file that UE recognises, and the compression set to 4 bits/sample (4:1)

And the programme I used is Cool Edit Pro 2.0
http://www.brothersoft.com/cool-edit-pro-76003.html

You can get it there as a 30 day demo.

You can also use Audacity 1.2.6 which has the benefit of being absolutely FREE!!

This isn't a limit set by UE, it's the format botf expects. UE just checks if the format matches and throws a tantrum if it doesn't.
