URGENT Windows FUBAR'd BotF!

As the title implies none of my BotF's are working instant crash on loading any of the mods or origninal game!!

Trek.exe has stopped working

Windows is checking for a solution...

Resently installed last nights (10) updates and an optional graphics card driver but AFAIK I havn't done anything to the file that were working on Monday.

Please help as the TOS mod is screwed over

First, welcome back Peter1981!
Second, backup, always backup your stuff. I'm sure you did, just needed to say it again reading your post.
Followed that rule there's no need to fear TOS mod is screwed over due to a problem like BotF not working anymore.

Try set stbof.ini 3D=SOFTWARE for vanilla if you havn't already.
Next, tell some more on your system, what os you have and what updates you installed.
Eventually try uninstall these updates again or do a system restore/recovery.

back-ups not working -- system restor back two-days not worked.

Even vanilla 1.0.2 isn't running all these are in seperate folders.

just to be clear trek.exe (in any form) doesn't even clear the screen and go to play the intro.avi. just crashed at the desktop. Please any more suggestions?

sorry to hear about your problems. Before you do any more make sure you backup the complete folder for your mod. At least that way you will have base data that can be added later. if you want you can send it to me and I will check to see if I can get it running.

as Flocke requested, system/video info would be nice and also have you tried to reinstall old driver for video? you might need to uninstall current driver first.

also in stbof.ini try turning off movie and sound as a test.

further check registry, though probably not related:
exec regedit
view HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microprose
there all mods should be listed as well as vanilla
e.g. I have Star Trek: BOTF folder with installpath and version and another folder named 1.0

edit: oh, and regarding the graphics you can try whether mpr++ works or if it crashes with an exception to be found in ogre.log

Having checked windows hadn't (and will not) revert to the earlier restore point? not sure why any suggestions?

further i think is is the display driver as that was the most likly thing recently installed that works with BotF...

Well some drivers you can't revert by setting back to an earlier restore point, you can only uninstall (important to uninstall first) then reinstall the driver. Did you test other games whether they work with that driver?

SOLVED

downloaded an even newer updated -- guessing NVIDIA screwed up the last update.

The TOS MOD is back and running again -- Hooray

I also learned the hard way never use windows update for video drivers most of the time they are only drivers and will not have updated software that might come with downloading from video card company site.

yep tc -- just pee's me off that you are playing a game thats worked for 13 years, you get an update notice and gamly accept it at 2am in the morning; and think well I'll leave it to do it's thing; leave it to shut down and go to bed. wake up goto work, get home late turn on your computer and try to resume the game your playing:- but no you just get effing grief from windows with a game thats 13 years old! #justsaying lol
