What is the most useless minor race in the original game?

Since those 2 major TNG chars were playing such a huge part in it, the Defiant technically also became a TNG ship (licence-wise) and was allowed in this game.

iirc it was allowed due to the movies, mainly First Contact (movie 1996 game release 1999) the Defiant and the Sovereign where used and this was considered "the next generation movie" But yes some said it was a loop hole.

If that's the case then the Excelciors should have been in along with Soyuz class and whatever they considered the USS Lantree to be. But again, that's why we mod!

I think I've seen that behaviour with the Mintakans as well. all of those insta-join races seem to have that. It's nice when you meet them but can be a real pita when it comes to liberation.

The game seems to use the same function for that. Don't know if it could be changed. It'd be a really nice fix, tho.

Mizarians are all right. They're easy to incorporate however you want to and because of their Monument of Surrender you'll have one a system that rivals the home system for morale so they're very productive if they have a decent size system.

I'd much rather have them than half the other races in the vanilla game.

Another one that I just bumped into in my current game is the Angosians. I think they're about on par with the Selay and Anticans. Ground defense as a bonus and essentially worthless ships. It all depends on what the system is like.

uhm the Angosians have ground combat which applies empire wide and isn't that bad. Ground defence on the other hand...

I don't like them that much but they're not completely useless imo.

Empire wide? I've been playing this game for over 10 years and I never once thought about the difference between ground defense and ground combat. If the system wasn't on the front line I never powered it so I never knew the difference. I'm going to go over here and sit with the dunce hat for a while.

Yeah, don't feel too bad brian. I myself didn't realize the Angosians' bonus worked that way either until after I'd been playing BOTF for several years (and like you, it was from this site that I learned that).


Note: The Nausicaans' bonus applies to ground combat empire-wide as well. I figured I'd mention it in case you weren't aware of that either.

Yeah once I realized there was a difference between ground defense and ground combat I knew the Nausicaans had it as well. I wonder how many invasions I would have repelled if I'd been using them over the years. I guess really not that many since about half the time I just play to see how fast I can roll over everyone. I've been known to have my tech at 5 and theirs at 1 on a simple game. If I ever did a multiplayer I'm sure I'd get smoked. Although now it's usually all tech 1 and normal and I still roll in the All the Ages Mod. Come to think of it, I haven't played a vanilla game in about a year.
