So perhaps Windows 9 will be free. Microsoft really should make it free based on competition and to keep Windows strong. Below is a slideshow to an eWeek article explaining the reasons behind this idea. If you aren't aware eWeek is a resource that writes about technology from an enterprise POV.

Will BotF work on Windows 9? With VirtualBox is should for sure.

Re: Perhaps Windows 9 Will Be Free...
there's really no need for windows 9, let alone 8 imo (well, except on tablets perhaps)
I guess, I'll be using Win7 for the rest of the lifecycle of this PC. And I'm going to use it at least for another 3 years. The only real problem with windows is that you need it for games. (thx to direct x)
This could change with the steam box from Valve and their own linux version for it. If this linux distribution is going to be awesome and (downward) compatible with most games, I'm going to switch. (if that'll be possible)
I'm also interested in the controller. Seen lots of interesting concepts of those yet.
By making win 9 free, they already admit that it isn't looking that good for windows anymore. I guess more and more people are realizing that you don't really need it anymore. Lots of already free alternatives out there (w/o backdoors).
It's good to see corporations like AMD turning away from directX, too.
