Get Paid!
That's not a typo - it's supposed to be a "p"...
Guys
Isn't the concept of the game Civilization very similar to BOTF?
Why don't you create an official mod for Civ of BOTF on Steam, avoiding the copyrighted stuff, and er get paid for it!

Re: Get Paid!
civ is a great game, but it is not similar to botf at all
I doubt it's even possible to get a similar experience to botf by modding that game

Re: Get Paid!
well, that was quick with rejecting cool ideas. But I can't say I'm surprised.
in fact, Civ and BotF have quite a couple of similarities:
- a random map generator
- cities with building lists which resemble the planets in BotF where you can produce buildings with special bonuses and units
- a tech tree
- a top-down 2d grid
this'd be a very deep conversion mod for sure. Since I'm an avid Civ player for over 20 years now, I really like the idea.
The only thing really missing would be the 3d crashes erm battles, tho.
But OP, if you don't start it and mod CIV yourself, probably no one else will

Re: Get Paid!
I enjoy modding civ. Since most of it is in lua, you can easily change many things to your likings in a mere couple of hours. When BE came out, the first thing I changed was the stations and the aliens. At some point I wanted to simplify micro in BotF. Gowron helped me a little bit back then but wasn't seen anymore. Unfortunately, I haven't played BotF for a long time. The ongoing crashes just killed all the fun for me. So modding it, isn't exactly a priority at the moment and will probably never become one. I'm prolly here for some crazy nostalgic feelings I still have for this game for whatever reason.
CIV is pretty much the only series I play at the moment. I went back to play vanilla, because I started playing mp (which is amazing) and you can't use mods there - I also like to get some achievements.
Civ's enjoyable, requires a lot of thought and quite a bit of tactics. And the best thing about it: it doesn't crash whenever one of my farts escapes. It's a great base game for modding, hence I like OP's idea.
Are you down to modify anything to your liking?

Re: Get Paid!
It is to bad the full code to BotF can't be located to help with the crashing. Yes I know TC has tried. Oh well.
As for me I rarely run mods outside of BotF. I haven't personally made any mods although I kind of want a building or something to note when a system is done with development.

Re: Get Paid!
I can't live with the corruption and the crashes anymore. It honestly makes playing the game a waste of time. The micro is so intensively in this game, lots of hours have to be put into it - it's just not fun to throw all of that away. Again and again and again.
Civ on the other side is from another world when it comes to stability. I still have a game to crash or get corrupted yet.
