All Stardock games now need Steam to run.

Hi,

Note that $1 for GC2 is a better deal than free GC1.

Anyway,

Yep, but wait, for $15 you also unlock GC3, that's how they lure customers.
But that game isn't my style anyway. I opted for Endless Space on Steam now, hope it's worth that buck. Funny they run these deals same time.

Agreed. Nothing against the first GalCiv game, just that the second one is more replayable by several ordered of magnitude.

gc3 is similar enough to gc2 that you can save your $14! Also less stable, from what I hear. And the AI isn't better.

Yup. You can play as any of the factions. You can design your own ships. Planetary management is a lot more interesting. GC2 is a pure upgrade.

They finally decided to copy some other decent games, which is good. I don't think I remember a dev with such poor game design skills... their marketing skills however more than compensate for that ;) They can do a complete 180 and still "look good".
It's kind of a mess really though, all the expansion/DLC fuss. But it's kind of their thing.
Let's see in how many ways they can screw up the "new" game :D

For those like myself that always wanted to give Galactic Civilizations a shot - despite knowing that it doesn't match up in the least with BotF -
from Jan 21 to Jan 28 GC3 will be for free on Epic Games!

Thought I give it a note, afterall it is a widely known turn based space strategy game that for sure is worth a look when it comes for free.

Heh, ninja'ed. I was going to post that news myself. ;)

The other nice thing is that GalCiv3 is now automatically bundled with Crusades and Retribution, its two best expansions (plus the Mega-Events DLC). So you're getting a pretty decent experience, as opposed to only getting the base game (which admittedly was not great).

Looks like only the basic game is free, if you want the expansions you have to buy it.

I'm not sure where you're getting that from, but it's incorrect.

If you go the Epic store and look up the DLC for GalCiv3, you'll see that Crusades, Retribution, and Mega-Events aren't even available for sale (since they're now automatically bundled with the base game). The only major expansion that is still sold separately is Intrigue.

But just to be extra-sure, I went ahead and grabbed the game off Epic (even though I already own it on Steam), and was subsequently able to verify for a certainty that the game comes bundled as I described above. ;)

It says the DLC is extra.

Ah, I see what you mean now. When you said that only the base game was free, I thought you meant that it didn't include *any* of the expansions/DLC, which I knew wasn't the case.

But yes, there is still content you can purchase for GC3 separately, such as the Intrigue expansion, Precursor Worlds, Lost Treasures, Worlds in Crisis, Mercenaries pack, etc. Whether or not the rest of the game's DLC is worth getting kinda depends on what you like, but either way I would only purchase them if/when they're on sale. I have most of the DLC for GalCiv3, and I like them, but I don't think I'd pay full price for them.
